Infantino: “We are with Lukaku, there is no place for racism in football”

Romelu Lukaku has garnered countless supporters after being racially abused by Juventus fans in Turin. FIFA President Gianni Infantino made it clear that racism has no place in football.

In the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final between Juventus and Inter, the sides ended in a 1-1 draw and left unfinished business ahead of the second leg at the Meazza, but the derby’s competitive side faded into the background.

Also in the foreground now is the fierce racist attack that Romelu Lukaku received from Juventus fans in the final of the game, which caused not only violent reactions from the Italian football family by blaming the Belgian striker for the behavior but too many allies too find.

Alongside Inter, the Italian Football Federation and numerous players (Kylian Mbappe among them), Gianni Infantino also stood by him, with the FIFA President making it clear in a written statement that there was no place for racism in football.

“There is no place for racism or any form of discrimination in football. It is simply unacceptable to see racist remarks made by spectators towards Inter Milan forward Romelu Lukaku during the Coppa Italia match against Juventus.

FIFA and the undersigned are on Lukaku’s side.”Infantino stressed, adding that football should ensure tough sanctions are imposed and stressed the need for fans to silence racists.
