The racist attack on Romelu Lukaku by Juventus fans in the first leg of the cup semifinals will not go unpunished as 171 have already been identified as instigators of the slogans and are awaiting punishment.

The first semi-final of the Coppa Italia between Juventus and Inter Milan on April 4 was marred by embarrassing scenes in the final as Bianconeri fans launched a racist attack on the Inter Milan striker of Belgium.

In that match, Lukaku was initially sent off with a second yellow card due to his special celebration (he asked the fans to keep calm because he wanted to “answer” to his offenders), but with the intervention of the President of the Italian FA, Gabriele Gravina, he has been pardoned for the Nerazzurri and unbanned, making him available to Simone Inzaghi for next Wednesday’s second leg (26/4) between the two sides.

“I am very pleased with this decision by the president of the association, who has shown great sensitivity. I believe that thanks to his intervention, justice has been done and a great message has been sent to the whole world of sport and beyond.

It showed that there is a will to fight racism”Lukaku had announced, among other things, that another event is to come to cheer up those who fight against racism every day.

As reported by Italian media, after the relevant audiovisual control, it was established that around 250 fans were involved in the racist attack on Lukaku, with 171 recognized as instigators of the racist slogans and penalties awaited for violating the regulatory behavior on sports fields.

The same reports highlight that an investigation is underway to determine whether the remaining Vecchia Signora fans are in fact responsible (out of the 250 originally scrutinized), while an investigation is also being conducted into the slogan “Liverpool, Liverpool” heard by Inter fans in the same game, with a clear reference to the Hazell tragedy that killed dozens of Turin’s friends in 1985.
