Infantino sent a tough message against racism after attacking Vlahovic
Dusan Vlahovic’s racist attack during Atalanta-Juventus provoked the immediate reaction of Gianni Infantino, who made it clear that it was not an isolated case and called for severe penalties.
“Racism has no place in football”. This was the clear message that Gianni Infantino wanted to send with the FIFA President on Monday (05/08) after the racist attack Dusan Vlahovic received from Atalanta fans on Sunday during Dea’s match against Juventus in Bergamo, to a story about his officials Instagram account and condemn what happened, but warn of severe penalties.
“There is no place for racism or any other form of discrimination in football. What Atalanta fans did to Juventus striker Dusan Vlahovic during a Serie A match is totally unacceptable.
This is not an isolated case and I ask the relevant authorities to ensure the implementation of strong sanctions to deal with and act as a deterrent to such incidents.
FIFA and I stand by Dusan Vlahovic and any other player, coach, match official, fan or participant at a football game who has suffered racism or other forms of discrimination.
The victims of this abuse must be supported by the authorities at all levels and the perpetrators must be punished appropriately. I reiterate my appeal, which I have made several times in the past, to the fans to take a stand and silence the racists.” stressed the president of world football’s governing body, concluding:
“Once and for all: No to racism. No discrimination of any kind.”
