Cagliari 0-1 Milan: Golden threesome with Benasser’s signature
A great goal from Benasser after a superb assist from Giroud was enough for Milan to leave Sardinia with a brace against Cagliari (0-1) and find themselves back alone at the top, with +3 from Napoli and +6 from Inter.
Victory at Diego Maradona has propelled Milan to the top of Serie A and they don’t seem ready to step down. It thundered to its rivals even on Saturday night (3/19) when Stefano Pioli’s team, victorious from Sardinia, passed Cagliari 1-0 and remained alone in 1st place, with a difference of three points with Napoli and six of Inter (the Nerazzurri have fewer games).
The game
There were no goals in the first half, Cagliari avoided taking offensive risks and was mainly interested in keeping a clean sheet at home (without a final at home during that period), and Milan had 2-3 good moments but lost to turning some of them into goals. Zirou and Diath both had chances to give the Rossoneri the lead but failed to come to rest after a Cassier shot went off the top of the bar in the 13th minute.
The scene remained the same in the second 45 minutes, with Stefano Pioli’s players still in control and creating phases in the opposition house, and the justification comes in the 59th minute. Then, as Diath crossed from the right and Zirou set the ball in exemplary fashion for Benasser, the Algerian midfielder caught a fantastic shot on the move with his left, leaving no room for a reaction to Kranio (0-1).
