Spalletti must pay compensation if he wants to leave Napoli
Luciano Spalletti’s relationship with Aurelio De Laurentiis is not in a good shape at all, the veteran technician seems ready to leave but has to pay several million euros in compensation.
Napoli have made history this season by winning La Liga and returning to the top of Serie A after 33 years, but things are not as idyllic in the Italian south as one might expect.
The cold-to-war climate between technical leadership and administration is strong evidence that Luciano Spalletti has a large share in the Partenopei’s success, but recognizes that there is no equivalent credit to Aurelio De Laurentiis and is seriously considering the possibility of departure.
The Napoli president reportedly exercised his option and extended Spalletti’s contract until 2024 without first speaking to him and offering him a contract extension.
The result has left Spalletti with the sixth-best contract in Serie A in terms of manager money and is deeply frustrated, which has put him one step away from opening the exit door.
However, it won’t be easy for anything to happen as reports from the neighboring country suggest that Napoli management have the upper hand as the 64-year-old boss will have to pay €8m in compensation if he wants to leave what is broke his contract .
