Milan 5-1 Sampdoria: Giroud and Leao kept in touch with the Serie A top four
Milan did their duty against bottom and relegated Sampdoria and kept in touch with the top four in the Champions League clash with a 5-1 win at the San Siro.
AC Milan overcame the bad mood after being eliminated in the midweek Champions League semi-finals and continued their bid to return to the competition in the new season with a win 5-1 on the tail and demoted Samdoria at “Giuseppe Meazza” for the 36th matchday of Serie A.
The Rossoneri took the lead through Rafael Leao in the 9th minute, with the Portuguese winger edging out from the injury that ruled him out in the opener against Inter Milan. Fabio Quagliarella equalized shortly after, becoming the fourth player to score in 18 seasons in the division and fifth to score after turning 40. His place was taken Marios Economous at 69′.
But the evening belonged to the hosts, who took the lead after half an hour with two goals from Olivier Giroud. In the second part, Brahim Diath was also crowned scorer after an excellent team performance and celebrated this with a kiss on the Milan shield, which he will leave in the summer and return to Real where he belongs. In the 68th minute, Giroud scored a hat-trick from a Leao assist with a double, setting the celebratory tone of the evening.
