After a journey full of… Lazio from 2005 to today, Illy Tare has decided to officially say goodbye to the Romans by resigning as sporting director.

Illy Tare hung up his football boots as a player for Lazio Roma, where he played on the pitch from 2005 to 2008, but his relationship with them didn’t end there, instead immediately finding a new starting point.

He first took on the role of team manager at the Eternal City in the summer of 2008, and in April 2009, after completing the necessary training to become a sports director, he took over this role at the Eagles.

A title he held for a full 14 years until the credits rolled just before the end of his last contract with Lazio (which expires on June 30, 2023) and the 49-year-old Albanian said goodbye to himself.

After 18 years, my wonderful experience as sporting director of Lazio Roma is coming to an end. I had made that decision for some time but I was waiting for Lazio to achieve the Champions League goal, knowing that I’ve built a strong side with excellent players who have the potential to achieve that goal.

“It was a great and intense adventure full of joys, defeats and trophies. I will never stop thanking President Lotito for the opportunity he gave me, the Biancocelesti fans who closed my heart, the club with all its members, the players, staff and everyone close to me on this journey stood.

Special thanks go to my family, who have always been there for me.”he said, among other things, in his farewell statement.
