Spezia – Verona 1-3: Engong knocked out Nicolaou’s team from Serie A
Two goals from Cyril Ngong gave Verona a 3-1 win over Dimitris Nikolaous Spezia in the Serie A play-off.
THE Verona was in 18th place on Matchday 8 of Serie A, the special has never been in the relegation zone. And yet, in the play-off, the first managed to beat the second by a wide margin 3-1 to “MAPEI” from Reggio Emilia and to stay in the category.
Verona took the lead in the 5th minute through Davide Faraoni, but Ethan Abadu equalized with a header in the 15th minute and put Spezia back into play.
However, it was at this point that Cyril Ngong sprung into action, beating his defense twice Dimitris Nikolaou and with two goals he gave Verona a clear lead.
In the 2nd half, Faraoni’s sending off in the 68th minute to prevent a goal resulted in Empala Enzola converting a penalty that gave Spezia a chance to turn the tide, but Lorenzo Modipo saved to make it 3: 1 and to secure the ticket for the next Serie A.
