Mourinho: Lukaku? After Azmoun, they promised me another striker.
Roma are scrambling to land Romelu Lukaku on loan and Jose Mourinho has left the transfer window wide open, stressing his management have promised him another signing in addition to Azmoun.
Romelu Lukaku’s future is far from Chelsea as the Belgian striker trains with the club’s Under-21s and is out of touch with Mauricio Pochettino, but following the delay in the Juventus deal there is a new club that is pushing hard for the Belgian has, and that he is Roma.
In fact, the Giallorossi’s interest in the player was piqued in his own unique way by Jose Mourinho when he was asked to comment on the reports leading last season’s Europa League finalists to sign him.
“There are coaches and clubs who select the players and those where the first players are selected. There are clubs like this in both England and Italy, but we are in a different situation.”
The one recommended to me by the team manager was Azmoun, not as “my” forward but as one of “my forwards”.
If he’s in a good mood, he can help. He didn’t do well in Leverkusen and that’s why we can loan him out, otherwise he would stay there. He’s a player who can help us“, the Portuguese first pointed out, adding meaningfully:
“Pinto told me that another striker is coming. I am calm and waiting, the game we have to play on Saturday (including the away game against Verona) is more important than the transfers.”
So there will be another striker and I’m happy about that. If the other striker has quality, then we talk to Belotti, Azmoun and this hypothetical third striker about good attacking solutions.
Who did Pinto promise me? No name but I’ve been told management will work hard for a different striker with different qualities than what we have today.
