The own goal of the year in the Sassuolo-Juventus final, due to Gatti’s misunderstanding with Cesny
Sassuolo’s victory over Juventus at the Mapei Stadium was crowned in the final when Federico Gatti scored an unthinkable own goal after a misunderstanding with the club’s goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny.
Juventus remained unbeaten in their first four Serie A games (W3 D1), but their first setback was painful as they lost 4-2 to Sassuolo in Reggio Emilia.
The Neroverdi took the lead twice and the Bianconeri responded with the same number, but at some point Allegri’s players capitulated and Pinamonti made it 3-2 for the hosts, which in the most surprising way made it 4-2.
This happened in the fifth minute of stoppage time as Juventus were burning for an equalizer, Cesny was offside and fed to Gatti, who headed the ball back to the Pole from distance, thinking he was under the goalposts, and one of the most impressive own goals of all Times achieved on Italian pitches.
