Pioli: “Shocked about Tonali, I love him and will help him”
Sandro Tonali’s involvement in the illegal betting scandal shocked Italian football and especially the people of Milan. Stefano Pioli told a press conference that he would help the former Rossoneri midfielder.
Sandro Tonali hit the headlines in Italian football last summer after Newcastle spent €70 million to sign him from AC Milan. This was supposed to be the most expensive transfer of an Italian player in history, but just a few months later the young midfielder is at the center of the news for… all the wrong reasons.
These are related to his involvement in a betting scandal in Italy, with the Magpies player threatened with a ban and Stefano Pioli’s comments expressing his full support for his former footballer.
“We are surprised and shocked by this situation. Our thoughts are with Sandro (née Tonali). If I loved him 10 times, now I love him 100.”
He knows that I will always be there for him if I can help him. I will try to help him”emphasized the Milan coach at the press conference before Sunday’s derby against Juventus (October 22nd, 9:45 p.m., COSMOTE SPORT 2 HD, LIVE from Sportish)and added:
“I don’t want to judge him for what he seems to have done, but I would like to give him advice on how to overcome this situation and be an example to others.”
