De Laurentiis on TV rights in Serie A: “It was a defeat for Italian football that will die”
De Laurentiis expressed his opposition to the Serie A executive committee’s acceptance of the offer for Sky and DAZN television rights, saying that this deal would mean the end of Italian football.
In consultation with the TV providers Heaven And DAZN came to Serie A on Monday morning (October 23), with the executives of football clubs in Italy’s first national league accepting the offer of 4.5 billion euros for the rights to broadcast the league’s games for the next five seasons, starting from the 2024/2025 season.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, 17 officials voted for Sky and DAZN’s 900 million percent proposal, one group abstained and two voted against the offer.
These two teams included the champions Napoli with their president, Aurelio De Laurentiis at the end of the meeting to declare: “It is a defeat for Italian football, with this attempt the country’s football will die. Sky and DAZN are not competent, they are not good for Italian football. Then there is the stupidity of signing a 5-year contract in a time of crisis. The value of Italian football comes from investments. Sky and Dazn are doing nothing“.
