President Toronto: “I discovered insignia through an Internet search”
Just 24 hours after Toronto FC closed its big deal with Lorenzo Insigne, the Canadian team’s president admitted that he first met the Italian striker via a simple internet search.
After almost a decade in Napoli, where he became a footballer and made a name for himself, Lorenzo Insigne will accept Toronto FC’s offer of an annual deal with him next summer.
As it all started with one of the most impressive transfers in years, Bill Manning made sure to quench the curiosity of football fans Squadra Azura was created through the Transfermarkt website.
“Last summer I checked the Transfermarkt website for the Italian national team that had just won the European Championship to see which players had expired.
“Lorenzo was one of the few Italians whose contract has expired.” said the strong Canadian with more sincerity to complement the flirtation with the 30-year-old extremist:
“I started jotting down players who I thought were world class and could be acquired during this transfer window. I shared my thoughts with the board and Lorenzo was high on my list.
“Expectations are very high because the club haven’t moved for two full seasons due to the pandemic and Insigne is a player people want to see in the stadium because there will always be an opportunity to do something memorable.”
