Oliveira: “I was surprised by the quality of the Roma players”

After Maitland-Niles, Sergio Oliveira became the Roma’s second newcomer in the winter season (on loan from Porto until the end of the season with a mandatory purchase option next summer for 13 million euros) and on Friday afternoon it was the turn of the Jalorosi to present it to the press.

Despite being only 24 hours from the Italian capital, the former PAOK player couldn’t hide his excitement during his first appearances with his new team. “I’m going to learn Italian, but tonight I’ll speak Portuguese. I’m 29 years old and I’ve already proven myself. I feel like I can help Roma.

Jose Mourinho is used to attracting and working with key players and Roma have a lot. My favorite role is that of the “8” in the trio in the middle or in a lower position when we play with a duo on the axis.

“I like the challenges. I am grateful to Porto for helping me reach this level.” stressed the Portuguese midfielder, adding sensibly:

“I was surprised by the quality of the Roma players and the training facilities are excellent. I’ve been following the Roma for a long time because of Thiago Pinto and Jose Mourinho and I have a good relationship with Pellegrini.”

Last season was the best for me, individually and as a team. I wanted a new challenge and I am not afraid of going on loan, I want to prove that I can stay here for a long time. One of my goals is to get back to the national team and the coach knows that.

“Portugal has to win their first game and then we can play against Italy. We have everything we need to take part in the World Cup.”
