Rafael Leao is being asked to pay 16,500,000 from his pocket to Sporting for unilaterally breaking his contract in 2018 and going to Lille as a free agent.

The Lisbon Court of Appeal upheld the CAS’ submission and Rafael Leao must pay the amount of 16,500,000 euros Athletic, due to his departure from the club to Lille in 2018!

The Portuguese striker from Milan is now on trial with his former club because he, like many of his team-mates, decided that summer to unilaterally terminate his contract and leave after being attacked by hooligan ‘lions’ at the training center .

Sporting first approached FIFA and claimed 45,000,000 as missing earnings from the player’s transfer and this amount was eventually reduced to 16,500,000 in court as the player was deemed to be so expensive. Leao made a last-ditch attempt to overturn the decision, but failed and the court in the Portuguese capital acquitted Sporting.
