Gasperini: ‘Atalanta cannot aim for the Champions League next season’
Gian Piero Gasperini denied the rumors that he wanted to leave Atalanta, but made it clear with his statements that the Bergamasca’s ambitions for the new season cannot be as high as those of previous years.
The latest scenarios that have seen the light of day wanted Gian Piero Gasperini and Atalanta to take different paths from this summer as he was left out this year after three consecutive seasons he celebrated with Dea in the Champions League in Europe ( 8th ).
However, that will not happen as Gian Piero Gasperini issued statements on Tuesday (7/6) clarifying that what was written was not true, with the Bergamaski coach rushing to clarify that Atalanta should lower the bar on expectations regarding his recent past .
“I will not submit my resignation today, such rumors have been around since Monday but nobody spoke to me. Today I wanted to go out and say that I want to change 20 players…
I see three paths for the future and it is the administration that decides who follows it. The first is to do a partial upgrade, but with a top player that could instantly increase the level of the team.
Like Sapata or Muriel. The second is to lower the team’s average age and rank players like Scalvini and Copmainers.
The third is to stay the way we are and say, “We’ll carry on,” Gasperini first explained to add meaningfully regarding Atalanta that (their) people should expect during the 2022-23 season:
“It’s important to be clear. We can’t appear to be eliminated from the Champions League. What happened was amazing but if it was easy, now it’s not.”
That’s the first thing we should say. If you ask me if she’s competitive to do what she’s done in the past, although I hope to be proved wrong, the answer is probably no.
There’s no reason to talk about a Scudetto or a Champions League exit, especially when you see what the very rich teams that can close the gap are doing.
“There’s a lot of money out there, there’s people willing to do great things to grab players, but we’re at a different table.”

Incredibly, Mourinho, he sang it to Kvaratshelias and was hugging and kissing him within 10 seconds
An incredible scene took place in the first 45 minutes of the Roma-Napoli game in which Jose Mourinho first theatrically cheered Kvaratshelias and then hugged and kissed him within ten seconds.
Incredible scene in Rome – Napoli where Jose Mourinho first chants Quaratschelia and then within ten seconds hugs, kisses and talks to him as if he were his father.
In the 37th minute of the game, the Georgian international earned a foul and a yellow card from his opponent, in a phase that took place in front of Mourinho, who insisted that there was not even a foul.
Afterwards, the Portuguese technician initially shouted at Kvaratshelias, telling him that he was just acting, but as he approached Georgianos, he hugged him, kissed him and began talking to him in a very calm tone while the two men found each other. A little later, the recording showed Mourinho having a very friendly chat with Osimen.
