Mourinho: ‘I’m not a born leader, the key to success is strategy’
Jose Mourinho stressed in an interview that his love of football was his motivation for so many years on the bench, while making it clear that strategy gives someone an edge and brings success.
Jose Mourinho has two full decades on the football field and is still in the foam, with the strongest evidence of winning the Conference League with Roma last May, which gave him the first European trophy in his very large collection.
Looking ahead to his second season at the Jalorosi, the Portuguese spoke to Sky Sports about the key qualities that define him as a coach and made it clear that he doesn’t have the style of leadership that many give him credit for.
“It is in the nature of football to want to be in the sport for many years. If you don’t love football and you’ve achieved everything, you just stop and enjoy your medals.
And then you enjoy life outside of football. But if you love football, you don’t want to give up. If you love football, you don’t feel old.
You feel fresh, you feel young and you have this feeling until your last days. So motivation is part of the DNA”emphasized the special and added:
“Being a leader means that people follow you. And that means they believe in you. They usually believe in you when there is empathy and honesty.
What the word “leader” means to me is the responsibility you have not to disappoint your people. You have to be with them and for them all the time. they should trust you
I wouldn’t say I’m a born leader. On the contrary, at a young age I would say I was a silent leader. But my job doesn’t allow me to be a silent leader, which is my nature.
I have to be in the public eye all the time, I have to communicate on social media all the time, and that makes a big difference.
The key to success remains the same, it has everything to do with strategy. You can’t predict everything, but the more prepared you are, the less you reduce the unpredictable.
This makes your selection and decision easier. “You know that football matches have certain risks, but you should try to reduce those risks by preparing as best you can.”
