Panathinaikos will make a move for a central midfielder at the level and cost of ‘Bernard’
The Panathinaikos management’s decision to break the financial ceiling and bring in a midfielder from a top European league who will fulfill Ivan Jovanovic’s conditions is now being accepted.
Panathinaikos has already invested a total of over €10m from this year’s budget for his seven summer transfer acquisitions (Bernard, Sporar, Verbic, Magnuson, Cerin, Lodingin, Gania). Both in the contracts for the 2022/23 season (5 million euros “clean”) and in the money for the teams (3.5 million euros at Sporting for Sporar, 450,000 euros in Nuremberg for Cherin) or the commissions of the agendas.
Nevertheless, he is preparing for another, last “big hit”. Like a grand finale or icing on the cake, it will be about one of the two central midfielders being signed to fill in his missing axis. That is, it will be about the player intended as the base option in the rotation.
Deciding on a new financial deductible
The decision made in the high ranks of the “green” PAE is to make a move for a midfielder at “Bernard” level, but also… at a cost. That said, another major investment should be made with a “first-line” footballer who will have a CV and high performances like the Brazilian, but at the same time will cover the elements that Ivan Jovanovic wants for the axis, namely the “8” and “6” positions ” (midfielders with speed, aggressive qualities, ability to keep the ball).
Therefore, the will is clear to invest another large amount both in the team and in the footballer’s contract, with the aim of further elevating the squad with a midfielder who, together with Rubens, will make the difference. Kourbelis, Cherin, and Bernard.
In fact, for the last few days, several cases have been studied with great attention by the media from the big leagues (without having already started talks with most of them), with the “Greens” having an important advantage: the fact that the transfer “window” remains in Greece until September 15th, by which time markets in most countries are now closed, but there are still plenty of good players on the major league teams not to count.
The second midfielder will be younger
In addition to the central central midfielder, a second, younger midfielder should come as an extra option in the rotation of the “8” with a present and future perspective.
From there, the squad will be locked there unless there is a shift away from the center of “green” defense over the course of the next two weeks or an exceptional “first line” case is found for the offense.
What about those who don’t count?
Finally, regarding the footballers who will not be counted and remain on the squad for the time being (Dioudis, Xavier), Panathinaikos is considering various solutions from leagues that still have open windows and there could be developments in the next 24 hours. Otherwise they remain in the workforce without being planned until January 2023.
