Biel impressed and showed that he is no ordinary 10
Pep Biel was a star player in Olympiakos’ win over Ionikos as he had one goal and one assist. The Spain midfielder has shown he’s not the 10 we’re used to.
Olympiacos returned to winning ways with a 3-1 win against Ionikos on Matchday 3 of the Super League. Pep Biel made his debut with the Rot-Weiss and impressed with his performance. Still, he received a standing ovation from the crowd in Karaiskakis when he was substituted in the 75th minute and Embilas took his place.
A well deserved round of applause. He was the player who scored the Red-Whites’ second goal after a good collaboration with Ui Jo Huang, while also assisting Bouchalakis who opened the scoring for the Red-Whites with a good shot.
Biel is an attacking player, he proved that in the game against Ionikos. He’s not the classic creative ten, but more of a footballer who moves on the edge of the lines and constantly causes problems.
This can also be seen in the Opta graphic below showing the red-white’s area of effect and transfers in the match with Ionikos.
The Spanish midfielder (21) played very close to striker Ui Jo (18) and came several times as a second striker from behind.
Biel was Olympiakos’ most aggressive player
Biel was Olympiacos’ most dangerous player. Overall in the game he had four shots, most of all on the field. One of them ended up online.
The Spanish midfielder had 47 actions with the ball down the length of the field and two of them in the opponent’s area, the dribbling and the shot that made him the top scorer.
At the same time, he helped the red-whites’ high pressing and that’s why he had five ball possession recoveriesamong the leaders in this field in this category.
He likes to play in the last third of the field
Biel showed against Nicaea that he doesn’t like to build up from behind, but is mainly active in the last third of the field and his passes, as can be seen from the Opta table, prove it.
The Spanish midfielder helped in his own way and in the creative part as he had done 23 successful passes with an accuracy rate of 74%.
That 11 of these, i.e. about half, were transfers to attack. At the same time, he had two passes that “created” a chance.
It will be at 100% very quickly
Biel was only announced on Thursday, September 1st. In short, the time in Olympiakos is very short.
From his very first game, he revealed elements of his game and prepared the red and white world for what to expect from him next.
Finally, he has proven that he has a competitive pace and the adjustment time to reach 100% of his potential will be minimal. After all, he already had seven games under his feet with Copenhagen this year.
