AEK will play against the most difficult opponent they can currently face on Sunday
Vangelis Arnautoglou writes about the upcoming derby with Panathinaikos and the opportunity to face AEK who are still looking for their own pick of the last few years.
It is worth emulating the example of Panathinaikos. After many seasons of football helplessness and a distinct lack of regularity in line with his true size, he found the way to overcome introversion, restore a climate of confidence in management’s efforts and feel fully competitive again.
But that’s another discussion, there are more competent approaches. What matters is how AEK finds him in this period: in a state of renaissance, that’s for sure…
The Union is a team that is still looking for the field. Matias Almeida hesitates about the arrangement and at the same time listens to the doubts that are spreading in the fan ranks as well as in part of the press. He’s a guy who wants to know everything, wants to learn everything and pays attention to it.
He himself believes that he has the ability to separate his thoughts and keep them away from personal influences, but at the same time he takes everything into account. It’s his own path until he gains trust, which has been impossible for coaches in recent years, both inside and outside of AEK.
So, in our case, the circumstance hides two sides, like a coin. Full of energy, normalized and convincing game plan, smart coach and greatest weapon with the right chemistry that clearly characterizes him, Panathinaikos is the most difficult opponent the Union could face as he is at the beginning of the effort to achieve what he is has achieved after a year and a half of work. This is a page.
The other shows us the way to the very important opportunity to start a new way of looking at things. Despite their given reinforcements, AEK is still a team in the making that is clearly still confused competitively as their trainer shuffles the deck into positions and formations.
Few expect to play against the Panathinaikos out of dynamism, enthusiasm and a much clearer focus on what they want to play, how to do it and what to avoid in Apostolos Nikolaidis (11/09, COSMOTE Sport 1 and Live Sportish ). Of course, there are times when such situations produce resounding reversals. Here is Leoforos…
One of the abscesses that Almeida quickly identified, that of the defeatist mentality, constitutes AEK’s main competitor in the first phase. Lots and lots of things have changed in the dressing room, but that doesn’t necessarily mean anything because the germs of the years eventually mold and are difficult to eradicate.
The way the Union steps onto the field, how they give themselves the right not to be “swallowed” by the opponent with the momentum they will have, will also judge their course in the game. Will he believe it? In other words, will Almeida be able to convince the players?
It’s also his first Greek derby, the first encounter with an atmosphere that he certainly experienced as a footballer, maybe also as a coach, but in countries with different cultures. The team’s image will depend on its own approach before the game, its calm and sobriety during the game.
It’s important for a team that has forgotten what it’s like to win big games, or what rarely happens to them anyway, to quickly understand in the game that they are proceeding with the right plan to ‘snag’ what is most valuable. Because if he succeeds, from Monday we can talk about the new AEK in other words.
