The five-day crash test with Volos and Freiburg and the management of Corberan
Olympiacos have put the defeat at the hands of Nantes behind them and are now turning their attention to the games against Volos and Freiburg, which will be a crash test for Carlos Corberan’s side in La Liga and Europa League.
The Red-Whites have put the defeat against Nantes behind them and are now concentrating on the two important games they have to play within five days in Georgios Karaiskakis against Volos for the championship (Sunday, November 9th, 6:30 p.m., COSMOTESPORT 1, LIVE Sportish) and Freiburg for the Europa League (Thursday, September 15, 7:45 p.m., COSMOTESPORT 1, LIVE Sportish).
These are two very crucial games for Olympiacos, as the Piraeus side have already suffered a league defeat (the 0-0 draw against Asteras in Tripoli) and started with a defeat (1-2 against Nantes in France) the premiere of the EuropaLeague group stage. For the Red-Whites, on the one hand, win against Volos to remain high in the table or climb to the top, and on the other hand, continue with the absolute home game after the victories over PAS Ioannina (2-0) and Ionian (3 -1).
Three degrees is the best medicine
In addition, Olympiacos needs the victories in Super League 1, both on points and for the psyche of its players, which has experienced many ups and downs since the beginning of the season. The three points are the Red Whites’ best medicine at the moment as the new manager and newly created team will need time to settle in and show their true capabilities.
At the same time, the Piraeus side need to lose their game against Freiburg and win a point or points to keep their hopes of qualifying for the next stage of the Europa League alive. Let’s not forget that, then follow the two home and away games with Qarabag, the trip to Germany and on the final day Olympiacos hosts Nantes in Faliro, in a game that is likely to see continuation in European competitions.
Freiburg are currently the strongest team in the group, while Volos need a lot of attention as they currently seem stronger away than at Magnesia. After all, they won 1-0 against AEK just two weeks ago at the Rizoupoli Stadium and they also want to damage the Red-Whites.
It needs proper management by Corberan
Consequently, Carlos Corberan and the Olympiacos footballers need to be suspicious and well-read to get the three points. In addition, the Spanish coach has to manage the manpower properly, because the Piraeus team will play a second game in less than 3:24 hours. The red and white finished the game against Nantes at midnight on Thursday and had to return to Greece and meet Volos on Sunday afternoon.
Logically, Arabi, Ba and likely Rodriguez will return to the line-up, while Saturday (9/10) will see more on the status of Embilla (pharyngitis) and Inbom Huang (left calf ailment).
