Super League announcement: ‘EPO had to respond to AEK’s defamatory announcement’
Super League issued a statement attacking both EPO and AEK on the occasion of the Union’s official position after the derby with Panathinaikos.
The Super League issued an announcement attacking both EPO and AEK. The reason for this was the Union’s official position on arbitration in the derby with Panathinaikos.
The announcement in detail: “The Super League as a cooperative, which is the main and direct financial supporter of Greek football and the EPO, has taken into account the reaction of the Hellenic Football Federation to the highly defamatory statement made by AEK against officials, referees and players of European football itself – blatantly and compellingly by the referees of the match Panathinaikos-AEK Super League.
Those referred to by AEK as “huts” in its announcement are officials from UEFA and FIFA, as well as elite referees. He doesn’t even make it clear whether Mr. Bennet is one of the “strangers” he calls “Shack”.
The EPO should therefore have done the obvious from the outset, if of course it wants to be considered independent and reliable and to live up to its institutional role as supreme authority, in making this announcement to protect our national team which has crucial games ahead of them and Olympiacos as our sole representative in UEFA’s European club competitions, but also the players from Super League clubs who compete in their national teams.
For all of them, this climate, which only harms Greek football, cannot be shaped, nor can Greek football be alienated.
Announcements of this nature discredit and damage the prestige of Greek football abroad and if AEK, which is a member of the cooperative, has evidence of foreign referee ‘huts’, it should report it to the authorities. Otherwise we speak of common slander.
The EPO, with its inaction and silence, once again proves its inability to lead the Super League teams equally.
It is now clear to all that the Super League’s independence at all levels is now a two-way street and is imperative to protect our product.”
