Now it’s final! The OPAP ARENA will operate normally during the opening ceremony on September 30th and AEK’s first historic game on October 3rd against Ionikos.

Good news for AEK as they now hold the license to operate their newly constructed HQ and will host their historic game against rivals Ionikos on Monday 3rd October.

On Wednesday morning (September 21) the decisive inspection to ensure the operating license of the AEK stadium took place. In the OPAP ARENA, the special levels of the region and the fire brigade were found to check all areas and decide on issuing the appropriate permit.

The project manager’s team, Dimitris Andriopoulos, was also present and explained in great detail what was being done there. Although it was initially announced that the final inspection would take place on Thursday 22 September, it was finally carried out a day earlier, apparently because the AEK agreed and their management did not want to waste a single day with queries.

The inspection was thorough, there were points where it was confirmed in great detail that there is not the slightest safety issue and after AEK successfully passed all the tests just before being informed by the region that their stadium is operational!

What remains is the procedural part: The committee made a positive recommendation for the licensing of “OPAP ARENA”. And he sent the relevant protocol to the region for final signing. What is now expected is the completion of the relevant signature process by the region to formally grant the permit.

The big moment that fans of the team have been waiting for for 19.5 years is now so close. Of course, the first image and taster of the OPAP ARENA will be enjoyed by those who will be inside when it opens on September 30th in a very special event televised by ERT that will travel the world.
