Eliasson’s extra work, the “hungry” Rota and Sidibe
AEK started their preparation for the derby with Aris with a journalist training session in Spata. Almeida’s players mainly worked on possession, with the players who started with Ionikos practicing in a more relaxed manner. Eliasson’s Extra Training, Rota’s Ghosts, and Sidibe.
AEK has already wrapped up the celebratory four days of opening and first match at OPAP Arena and started preparations for the Derby with Aris in Cleanthis. Vikelidis started morning training at Spata.
Stankovic was absent from training with the yellow-black team today (October 5th) due to harmless back pain, as were Galanopoulos and Amrabat, who were following a relief program.
Of course, the return of Jens Jonsson, absent from the last two games and available with Aris, is a welcome addition. However, his absence in recent days combined with Szymanski’s good performances will most likely keep him on the bench. Of course, Van Wert also stayed away from training.
The ball possession job
Training began with an offensive ball circulation exercise, but with a contact with the players, who switched “roles” after each pass. The players were divided into three groups of seven players each during the exercise. This part did not contain endings with Athanasiadis and Hadjiemmanouil, who made their program with Roa.
The Almeida players’ next exercise had to do with rallies in a confined space. The players remained in the same group of three and were divided into two groups for this exercise.
After playing their “fight” for about a minute, there was a “pause” and one of the triads trained attacks, with the forwards (Garcia, Araouho, Kosidis) having to defeat Hadjiemmanouil (Athanasiadis only trained with Roa).
The three groups into which the footballers were divided:
- Moustakopoulos, Radonia, Franson, Sidibe, Kosidis, Macheiras, Tzumber
- Mukudi, Vida, Rota, Mohammadi, Szymanski, Pineda, Garcia
- Mitoglou, Gatsinovic, Araujo, Mandalos, Tzavellas, Eliasson, Jonsson
The last part of the training and the “double header”
After completing this exercise, the last one followed, in which the players were again divided into three groups, but with a different composition. The big ones with Ionikos (except Vida) put on a leisurely run and completed their program.
Another trio trained one-on-one in a confined space, the third trained in the wing area with defenders and attackers. Also sitting under the rafters for this drill was Angelopoulos, who also dealt with Roa and other guys from the B team.
In the end, those who didn’t play against Ionikos and some players from the B team played a family double-header on the half-field. Giorgos Tzavellas will be there in the role of the “wild card”.
Eliasson’s work on the crosses, Rota’s enthusiasm and Sidibe
The majority of the starting group retired to the dressing room after the program ended, but Eliasson remained on the field. The Swedish midfielder collected some balls and went down on his own on the right and crossed. The 26-year-old midfielder shared two assists with Ionikos with sweet crosses from the right and is working hard to keep providing assists for his teammates.
The “headless” Lazaros Rota also remained on the field. The Greece international defender challenged Roa to put the ball in a small goal from long range, while Roa Angelopoulos was training he also went in and underwent surgery, looking in quite a good mood.
Tzavellas took part in the whole program without any particular pressure, while Djibril Sidibe, who was used in the exercises in the role of right-back, also gave his all. The France defender is gearing up for his debut, which will most likely see him come on as a substitute.

Despodov became an integral part of a well-coordinated machine: the two great performances against Kifissia
Kirill Despodov put in his best performance with the PAOK jersey in the 2023 final and showed that he has fully integrated into Razvan Lucescu’s group. The Bulgarian midfielder’s outstanding performances against Kifissia.
PAOK ideally completed its commitments before the end of 2023, when it passed Kaisariani with full football and played the newly enlightened Kifissia.
Lucescu’s men produced their most productive performance in this year’s Stoiximan Super League, finishing second in threat as their 15 final appearances were valuable 2.29 xGoals. The previous event happened three days ago in Tripoli when they beat Asteras 4-1. Thomas Murg’s star shone in this game. In Caesariani, Kirill Despodov was MVP.
The Bulgarian midfielder was one of six goalscorers for the Black and Whites and provided three assists, marking his most successful appearance for the Black and Whites. Tyson and Zivkovic were absent from these two games (Asteras and Kifisia), but their absence was never felt. And in this (especially at Kifissia) Despodov played an important role.
Despodov’s two great performances against Kifissia
Kirill Despodov was deployed on the right attacking wing, the position where Lucescu uses him most often, and the Bulgarian once again fulfilled his role. In fact, he was the player higher up the field (77) than Brandon Thomas (71) who turned further back on the field several times, as we can see in the Opta Stats/Perform graph.
Lucescu held him the entire game and Despontov finished the game with 58 actions with the ball. In fact, ten of them were in the Anagnostopoulos area. It was the highest performance by a Dikefalo player in the league, behind Tomas’ 11 appearances against Lamia.
In one of these ten actions, Despodov scored with a beautiful shot from deep. Where it stood out from Kifissia was the creation part. Created four finals All three even provided assists for his teammates (for goals from Thomas, Murg and Ozdoev).
At the same time he had four successful dribbles a record performance by a PAOK player in 90 minutes. Because Despodov was high up the pitch, he didn’t have many passes, but he had a very good scoring rate 26/32 precise passes.
The Bulgarian started perfectly at PAOK, but gradually experienced a slight decline as his role in Dikefalos is different to the one he had in Ludogorets. But now he shows that he is fully integrated, which is clear from both his appearances and his statements.
The summer addition of Despontov and the return of Murg gave Lucescu the opportunity to comfortably and successfully navigate the league and Conference League by splitting time and opening up the rotation. These two footballers were able to adequately fill the gap left by Živković and Tyson, who were missing in the last few games.
