What will be AEK’s transfer add-ons from now on
After years, AEK has reached the point where it has acquired a reputable and high-quality core, so from now on it is more of a targeted amplification and not a total scam.
Realizing game after game that AEK’s transfer goals last summer were particularly apt, after several years, the stage is set for the side to end that incessant “Rave – Zeilona” they’ve indulged in every summer. A situation that did not allow her to lay the foundations for the creation of an ensemble that would show progress season after season.
Instead there was constant change, engaging but also very controlled for its quality. There were expensive additions, a lot of half-measures and failures because the football plan kept going wrong. Or sometimes there wasn’t. And of course the #1 problem had to do with the coach. None of those selected were able to change the situation, even if the material was not intended for disposal. Not good enough to reach the championship but not bad enough to complete all goals from November or miss out on Europe at the end of the year.
Apparently, the choice of Matias Almeida has more chances than any other in the last four years to prove itself. The material is of significantly better quality, it meets the coach’s tactical requirements, which are anything but easy, and the new turf gives a good team that much extra impetus. In other words, how impressive AEK have been in their last three games in the league.
cases and changes of course
That is also the basis of the creation: a competent coach who is supported to strengthen and a team that does not have to show 15 footballers the exit door every year to use so many other, new and complete strangers. Now important touches are required, but no sweeping situations. Yes, like the one next January when Paolo Fernandez joins the team, with the logic that he will be an additional immediate fix, but also on the grounds that he will be the anti-Amrbat on the AEK list from next summer becomes.
Preparations for January and next summer are already underway. There is no particular urgency for the winter, nor has an urgent need been identified. Yes, if a left-back is found on the team’s path – as Hadjisafi will go in the summer – then let him choose! Certain cases are already being studied and monitored so that the player can flank Mohammadi who wants to reclaim his place in the team. However, competition is also required. Serious competition…
AEK already has him in several positions. For example, now see how hard Jonsson has to try to get back in the starting XI, while the manager decided to go with a defensive midfielder now and Szymanski is playing the games of his life at ‘6’. Think how hard Zuber has to try to convince Almeida to get him back into shape by ‘sacrificing’ someone who plays much better than the Swiss. These details make the difference in teams that have the right climate and everyone understands that they have to work hard.
As for stoppers? Yes, there are rumors, but the team is doing too well for anyone to bother with anything transferrable. But with an additional Vida-level centre-back needed next season, the club now also in Europe, clocks are being watched and lists are being made. More with time!

Despodov became an integral part of a well-coordinated machine: the two great performances against Kifissia
Kirill Despodov put in his best performance with the PAOK jersey in the 2023 final and showed that he has fully integrated into Razvan Lucescu’s group. The Bulgarian midfielder’s outstanding performances against Kifissia.
PAOK ideally completed its commitments before the end of 2023, when it passed Kaisariani with full football and played the newly enlightened Kifissia.
Lucescu’s men produced their most productive performance in this year’s Stoiximan Super League, finishing second in threat as their 15 final appearances were valuable 2.29 xGoals. The previous event happened three days ago in Tripoli when they beat Asteras 4-1. Thomas Murg’s star shone in this game. In Caesariani, Kirill Despodov was MVP.
The Bulgarian midfielder was one of six goalscorers for the Black and Whites and provided three assists, marking his most successful appearance for the Black and Whites. Tyson and Zivkovic were absent from these two games (Asteras and Kifisia), but their absence was never felt. And in this (especially at Kifissia) Despodov played an important role.
Despodov’s two great performances against Kifissia
Kirill Despodov was deployed on the right attacking wing, the position where Lucescu uses him most often, and the Bulgarian once again fulfilled his role. In fact, he was the player higher up the field (77) than Brandon Thomas (71) who turned further back on the field several times, as we can see in the Opta Stats/Perform graph.
Lucescu held him the entire game and Despontov finished the game with 58 actions with the ball. In fact, ten of them were in the Anagnostopoulos area. It was the highest performance by a Dikefalo player in the league, behind Tomas’ 11 appearances against Lamia.
In one of these ten actions, Despodov scored with a beautiful shot from deep. Where it stood out from Kifissia was the creation part. Created four finals All three even provided assists for his teammates (for goals from Thomas, Murg and Ozdoev).
At the same time he had four successful dribbles a record performance by a PAOK player in 90 minutes. Because Despodov was high up the pitch, he didn’t have many passes, but he had a very good scoring rate 26/32 precise passes.
The Bulgarian started perfectly at PAOK, but gradually experienced a slight decline as his role in Dikefalos is different to the one he had in Ludogorets. But now he shows that he is fully integrated, which is clear from both his appearances and his statements.
The summer addition of Despontov and the return of Murg gave Lucescu the opportunity to comfortably and successfully navigate the league and Conference League by splitting time and opening up the rotation. These two footballers were able to adequately fill the gap left by Živković and Tyson, who were missing in the last few games.
