PAS Ioannina – Asteras 2-1: They won by surprise thanks to Staikos’ golden substitutions

PAS Ioannina overcame Zosimades and celebrated an important three-pointer by beating Asteras 2-1 in Game 10 of the Super League.

The Arcades took the lead through Regis in the 47th minute, but the hosts equalized through Balan in the 63rd minute, while a Rossero header hit the post in the 72nd minute. It took another Staikos substitution to seal the deal and Fofanas turned the game around in the 76th minute.

Without big moments the first part

The first part had few good phases, with Asteras having possession and PAS Ioannina failing to become particularly threatening.

PAS were of course the first to threaten, Bilbao tried in the 17th minute the shot outside the penalty area, but the ball goes wide.

Asteras responded with in the 24th minute Tilika, who passed Soria and shot from a difficult angle, landing the ball outside of Athanasious’ net.

With a minute left in the first half, Rossero nearly hit the net and put the home side ahead with a scissor kick, but Tsiftsis jumped and blocked.

Staikos’ double substitution provided the solution and awarded the three points

Asteras found his way to the net in the first two minutes of the second half with Regis getting behind the PAS defense and beating Athanasiou with a beautiful finish, opening the scoring for his team.

However, the game changed after what turned out to be life-saving substitutions from Staikos, with Balan and Fofana coming onto the field and scoring goals in the 61st minute.

In the 63rd minute, Balan made it 1-1 on his first ball contact. Rossero crossed from the left, Soria turned and equalized with a shot from close range. In fact, the hosts almost scored a second goal in the 72nd minute when Rossero’s header hit Tsiftsis’ crossbar.

However, what the Colombian didn’t do in the 72nd minute, Fofana did in the 76th, when then Moreiras, in turn, lost the ball to Tsiftsis, scoring from close range to make it 2-1.
