The negative performance of Panathinaikos

Panathinaikos completed his trips this year in the regular season, culminating in the Greens’ negative performance in the Super League.

Panathinaikos suffered another defeat, their tenth this year against Panetolikos and their eighth away. In fact, the trip to Agrinio was the last for the Greens in the regular season and the Super League prepared an issue regarding the ‘trips’ of the trefoil this season and Panathinaikos’ negative performance.

On its official website, the organizer explains:

“Panathinaikos ended his travels for the regular season and whichever homeland he traveled to, he suffered defeat.

Panathinaikos reached the eight away defeats while they drew against Olympiakos, a match that did not travel, and won away from Ionikos and Apollon Smyrnis, who also traveled.

The only voyage she won was in Volos, Lamia, though not set in her physical HQ.

Panathinaikos lost to Aris and PAOK in Thessaloniki but also in the region’s five physical seats, Ioannina, Tripoli, Volos (where Volos is at home), Heraklion and Agrinio. His only away loss in the pool, which puts him in eighth place, was by AEK.

Equals the record of “Eight”

Panathinaikos’ eight defeats away from home equals a negative record in one season, in just 12 games.

He has yet to play in Peristeri and five more games in the playoffs (or four in the playouts) and shouldn’t lose any to avoid setting a record.

Panathinaikos had eight defeats in 17 games in 1974-75, 17 games in 1978-79 and 15 games in 1988-89.

Two-digit number of defeats…

Panathinaikos have also suffered 10 league defeats in total and are also in danger of setting a new record.

In 1982-83 he had 11 losses in 34 games, more than in any other season. He did that in 36 games last year, but as the playoffs progress the context changes as each team plays four different tough opponents.

He also had 10 losses in 34 games in 1978-79, 34 in 1996-97 and 30 games in 2017-18. In other words, it’s the sixth time in its history that it has had a double-digit loss. “And he has two more games in the regular season and ten more games in the playoffs (or seven in the playouts).”
