Panathinaikos aims for a four-point win, avoiding a negative record in Peristeri

Panathinaikos wants to end the regular season with a four-point win against Atromitos (6 March, 7 p.m., Novasports2) and not have their worst record away from home. Sportish analyzes …

The return of 6 points to Aris a few days ago (via CAS) raised the “difficulty index” for Panathinaikos, who “fell” to 5th place in the Super League standings and now have a three point handicap to cover (42nd place). -39 ) in the 1 + 10 – with the playoffs – games remaining until mid-May to ensure the minimum of 4th place and exit to the European Cup (and) through the “road” of the championship.

So tonight became even more important (06/03, 19:00, 19:00 Novasports 2, LIVE from Sportish) Match with Atromitos in Peristeri, the last of his regular season for the “Greens”, where the three-pointer is a way not to “open” the gap between Aris and AEK and on the other hand to reduce their distance if possible two if they don’t make it, Beat Olympiakos and Asteras Tripoli in their home games in 26the Run.

For Panathinaikos, of course, today’s game against Atromitos, which found its way and spread from 13the Position in his last few games is just as important for reasons…prestige. He is determined to avoid the worst away season in his history at A’National/Super League level. So from the 1959/60 season …

In the 12 games that the “Klee” has played away from home so far, he has 3 wins, a draw and 8 defeats. He has just 10 points (from 36 so far) and has tied the record for most of his away losses in a season (8). Worst of all, however, is that … he’s flirting (and) with the worst harvest outside of his “homeland” in a year. In total points, Panathinaikos is still behind its poor seasons during the A’ Ethniki/Super League days, namely the 11 points it scored in 1978–79 and 1987–88.

Of course with different scoring criteria, since the First National started in 1959/60 and ran with a 3-2-1 system (3 points for wins, 2 for ties and 1 for losses) up to the 1972/73 season 1973/74 and up for the 1991/92 season it switched to 2-1-0 and from 1992/93 to 3-1-0, which has remained so to this day.

If you reduce the entire historical course of Panathinaikos with today’s data (3 points for wins, 1 for draws, 0 for defeats) to its away games in the first category, you can see that with the 10 points in 12 games so far, it’s like that far away, his average harvest is just .83 per game. And if he loses at Peristeri tonight he will drop to .77, the equivalent – heartbreaking – performance of the 1978/79 season! In general, Panathinaikos has “suffered” away from home in the last four years, counted (only) 18 wins, 21 draws and 24 defeats in 63 away games” (win rate 28.6%)!

Eleven with Kourbeli and Sarlia

Ivan Jovanovic will not be able to fall back on Ruben Perez, Lucas Vigiafanies and Bart Senkefeld in the match. The Spanish midfielder has been suspended for one game, ‘Villa’ is yet to recover from the quadriceps injury he picked up against Panetolikos in Agrinio, while Senkefeld needs to ‘breathe’ ahead of the play-offs.

On the other hand, Mauricio Silveira returns after a 35-day absence following his calf injury during the match with OFI in Heraklion (02/02). Not for the starting line-up as Ruben’s place in midfield is expected to be taken by Dimitris Kourbelis, given a basic jersey for the first time since the day he got over the adductor problem in 14 months (has 5 appearances as changes and 112 minutes from the rematch against Anagennisi Karditsa).

In central defence, Zvonimir Sarlia is expected in place of the Dutch stopper, alongside Fran Veleth who, despite following a redundancy program in the days before, is now 100% ready to fight. These will be (barring the unexpected) both changes in the ‘Cloverleaf’ eleven in tonight’s game against Atromitos, in relation to the emphatic 3-0 win over AEK last week, with Dioudis, Sanchez, Veleth, Juankar, Alexandropoulos, Palacios, Gacinovic, Aitor and Ioannidis to assert their own positions in the starting XI.

The Panathinaikos team of 21 for the game against Atromitos consists of Diodis, Brinioli, Xenopoulos, Juankar, Veleth, Alexandropoulos, Ioannidis, Karlitos, Hatzigiovanis, Chatzitheodoridis, Santses, Kourbelis, Kourbelis S, Mauricio and Vital.

Despodov became an integral part of a well-coordinated machine: the two great performances against Kifissia

Kirill Despodov put in his best performance with the PAOK jersey in the 2023 final and showed that he has fully integrated into Razvan Lucescu’s group. The Bulgarian midfielder’s outstanding performances against Kifissia.

PAOK ideally completed its commitments before the end of 2023, when it passed Kaisariani with full football and played the newly enlightened Kifissia.

Lucescu’s men produced their most productive performance in this year’s Stoiximan Super League, finishing second in threat as their 15 final appearances were valuable 2.29 xGoals. The previous event happened three days ago in Tripoli when they beat Asteras 4-1. Thomas Murg’s star shone in this game. In Caesariani, Kirill Despodov was MVP.

The Bulgarian midfielder was one of six goalscorers for the Black and Whites and provided three assists, marking his most successful appearance for the Black and Whites. Tyson and Zivkovic were absent from these two games (Asteras and Kifisia), but their absence was never felt. And in this (especially at Kifissia) Despodov played an important role.

Despodov’s two great performances against Kifissia

Kirill Despodov was deployed on the right attacking wing, the position where Lucescu uses him most often, and the Bulgarian once again fulfilled his role. In fact, he was the player higher up the field (77) than Brandon Thomas (71) who turned further back on the field several times, as we can see in the Opta Stats/Perform graph.

Despodov became an integral part of a well-tuned machine

Lucescu held him the entire game and Despontov finished the game with 58 actions with the ball. In fact, ten of them were in the Anagnostopoulos area. It was the highest performance by a Dikefalo player in the league, behind Tomas’ 11 appearances against Lamia.

In one of these ten actions, Despodov scored with a beautiful shot from deep. Where it stood out from Kifissia was the creation part. Created four finals All three even provided assists for his teammates (for goals from Thomas, Murg and Ozdoev).

Despodov became an integral part of a well-tuned machine

At the same time he had four successful dribbles a record performance by a PAOK player in 90 minutes. Because Despodov was high up the pitch, he didn’t have many passes, but he had a very good scoring rate 26/32 precise passes.

The Bulgarian started perfectly at PAOK, but gradually experienced a slight decline as his role in Dikefalos is different to the one he had in Ludogorets. But now he shows that he is fully integrated, which is clear from both his appearances and his statements.

The summer addition of Despontov and the return of Murg gave Lucescu the opportunity to comfortably and successfully navigate the league and Conference League by splitting time and opening up the rotation. These two footballers were able to adequately fill the gap left by Živković and Tyson, who were missing in the last few games.
