Sportish analyzes the entire upgrade plan of the Panathinaikos scouting department led by Yiannis Papadimitriou – the faces, the partners, the separate room in Koropi, the database and the “connection” with the market

The comprehensive reconstruction of Panathinaikos’ scouting department (which had been on the verge of “inactivity” for years) was one of the absolute priorities that Yiannis Papadimitriou set out in his plan when he took over the position of technical director of the “Cloverleaf” at the end of last May.

At some point, Panathinaikos had to function like a “normal” European club at all levels, gradually building its own scouting network in order to create (to a certain extent) the conditions and conditions for a much more direct “connection”. with the market, both for the needs of the first team as well as those of the second team and the academy.

The 47-year-old technician had the issue of upgrading the department on his agenda from the start, he got Yannis Alafouzou’s approval for his own budget for the reorganization of scouting and now the whole project has been in full swing for some time. Papadimitriou prepared the final details of the organizational chart for the department, which is already working under his leadership.

The head of the scouting department, Makis Livathinos, has taken over the position of chief scout of the department and the “Impact” and action team will now consist of:

– Dimos Baxevanidis: The 35-year-old ended his football career after a rich career as a right-back in the first division, playing for many years in the jersey of Xanthi, but also with Apollos Athens and Doxa Drama. Now he has started a different career in football and has mainly taken over the international part of scouting, but also the Super League.

-Kyriakos Konstantinidis: He worked at AEK for several years. In Panathinaikos’ scouting department, he mainly looks after the academy and the second team.

-Alexandros Zafiriou: He is in his third year at Panathinaikos in scouting and mainly looks after the international team while coordinating the analysis.

From now on, Panathinaikos’ external partner in view of the huge Latin American market is Lucas Favali, who played a key role in the transfer of “Toukos” Palasios from Independiente two years ago and is to a large extent the club’s “eye” and “reservoir” of players with countless transfer options for all ages.

In addition, the Panathinaikos scouting department has had its own room, its own separate “base” in “G. Kalafatis”, while now working according to the standards of the leading European clubs, a separate electronic database, with all the necessary “tools” to evaluate data.

Along with exploring the academy

The Panathinaikos Academy is now included in the fully modernized scouting department of the “Cloverleaf”. Andreas Lagonikakis, Kostas Mavridis and Markos Tsombanopoulos will be joined by new partners and by the end of 2023 the “puzzle” of this special team will be complete.

Equally important is the fact that Panathinaikos will now have its own talent scouts in all geographical regions of Greece. For the timely and immediate identification of each individual case throughout the Greek territory in order to take the necessary steps and join the team’s academy at a young age.

In addition, it is expected that within the next year the second part of the expansion of “G. Kalafatis” will be finished, where, after the creation of the three new fields, the new hostels will also be built to be able to host small children from all over Greece for the Academy of Panathinaikos, as was customary in Paania in the past. Upgrade to all levels…
