Volos 2-2 Olympiacos: A draw in a game with three penalties, two sending-offs, two disallowed goals and an hour-long interruption due to incidents

Volos and Olympiacos were held to a 2-2 draw in a match that was suspended for almost an hour due to incidents between police and Reds fans as well as the use of chemicals that sent players and referees into the locker room.

The episodic match at Panthessaliko Stadium between Volos and Olympiakos ended in a 2-2 draw. The game was marred by incidents between the fans at the Horseshoe and the police, which led to a disruption of around 50 minutes and made the atmosphere oppressive.

The game included one sending off for each team, three penalties, one own goal and two goals from Olympiakos after the 2-2 draw was ruled offside by VAR.

In the 20th minute, Moraitis scored the first goal after a save by Paschalakis from the Volos player’s penalty, leaving the red-whites ten points due to Retsos’s sending off. In the 65th minute, the Red and Whites found the back of the net with Masoura, but after a VAR review the goal was disallowed for offside. In the 89th minute, Olympiacos scored again with El Kaabi, but this goal was also disallowed by El Arabi for offside.



The match

The first part of the game was pretty busy. Olympiacos came wanting to take the initiative but failed to seriously threaten. The best moment was a shot from Fortounis in the 15th minute that went wide. In the 17th minute GKarsia entered the area four by four and fell to Retsu’s cover.



At first Papapetrou gave nothing, but was notified by the VAR, checked the phase on the monitor, gave a penalty and sent off Retsu. Now in 20′ Moraitis took the lead, Paschalakis parried, but the Thessaly player picked up the rebound and sent the ball into the net.

In the 89th minute, the Red and Whites hit the net again. After a free kick, Arabi headed into the penalty area on the left, Kaabi headed into the goal. However, the goal was again disallowed by VAR as Arabi was offside when he accepted Fortounis’ foul.

Then there were incidents that led to a disruption of almost an hour. When the players returned, a few seconds had been played and the game ended in a 2-2 draw.
