Mantzios: “Qualitative help as quickly as possible, the government’s measures are wrong”
In his statements to “NOVA” before the game against Aris, Akis Manzios spoke about everything from the government’s measures, which he described as 100% wrong, to the transfer reinforcement of his team, in which he spoke of quality transfers.
Aris hosts OFI as part of the 14th matchday of the Stoiximan Super League and the club’s coach, Akis Manzios, spoke in an interview with the subscription basket about the government’s measures, which he described as 100% wrong, in transfer reinforcements about his team, where he spoke of top-notch signings and continued with a round one recap.
In detail what he said about the NOVA camera:
“Time will tell. This break had two aspects for us. Firstly, psychologically and competitively we were at a good level, so it wasn’t good in that respect. On the other hand, it was an advantage for us because it was allowed.” “It’s another week for us to work harder and make sure that some injured people come back and increase their readiness. Finally, we will see in the game against OFI how the break will turn out for us.”
On his comments on everything that has happened in Greek football in the last few days:
“First of all, all of these events (including the incidents and the serious injury to the police officer in Rentis) are regrettable. A decision was then made (by the government) which is 100% wrong. It punishes the real protagonists of football. Over the years, whenever serious incidents of fan violence have occurred, no action has been taken to eradicate the evil.
I agree that fan violence is increasing worldwide, but no major league has decided to play football games behind closed doors. With this decision you are punishing football itself and its protagonists. Punishment squads not involved in incidents. It’s a wrong decision. Above all, we as a team have to deprive our world of three big games at the beginning of the new year. This is a loss because everyone knows the dynamic that “Kleanthis Vikelidis” has with the people in the stands. For us, the absence of our fans is a significant loss.”
On the first game without people against OFI:
“Many children from abroad joined the team this season. They were surprised by this decision. We’re talking about it. We have to adapt because it will be something “cold” for them and for all of us. We have seen it again in the age of coronavirus. Unfortunately, there is no other choice… We have to adapt to the new data as best we can.”
For First round report:
“It’s a season with a lot of problems. A season that didn’t start well. Aris has a completely new team with 19 new players. But even if we add it all up, we could perhaps get a few more points than at the start of the championship.
But really, we’ve been through a very difficult time. We tried to do our best for the team, despite the many injuries we had to contend with. I hope that we are initially healthy in the second round. “To have all the footballers available and to get even better so that we can move up the table.”
On the injuries, the “10” position and the return of Lucas Rupp after three months:
“It is definitely a position that could be filled based on the planning from last summer. Manus Garcia’s return should then take place more quickly. That didn’t happen, and so he came.” The injured Lucas Rupp. This is a key position that we tried to fill through various player selections. Things are going better at the moment.
Lucas Rupp is back. He’s been training normally for two weeks now, so he’s willing to take his time. The good thing about Manu Garthia is that he no longer has any problems. He has completed a more intensive individual training program and has been integrated into the team in the last few days. That helps him more psychologically so that he can come back at some point, take his time in the games and give us the solutions we need.”
For playing with OFI:
“OFI is a very good team. She showed a certain style of play last year with the presence of the previous coach. Certainly the dates will be different now because a new coach has taken over. I don’t know.” What he can catch these days will change, but we expect something different than what we’ve seen so far..
How Aris should approach this game:
“Every game is different anyway. It is important to approach each game according to the possibilities you have as a team. In fact, our approach in the game against OFI will be different than in the previous two derbies. Whatever.” “But in our minds it’s all about winning.” .
For transfers:
“I won’t go into details, but the team needs quality signings. The administration is continuing with this plan. We have to move as quickly as possible because January is full of games from the start. There are six games in the first 18 days, so it is important to strengthen our quality as quickly as possible.”

Despodov became an integral part of a well-coordinated machine: the two great performances against Kifissia
Kirill Despodov put in his best performance with the PAOK jersey in the 2023 final and showed that he has fully integrated into Razvan Lucescu’s group. The Bulgarian midfielder’s outstanding performances against Kifissia.
PAOK ideally completed its commitments before the end of 2023, when it passed Kaisariani with full football and played the newly enlightened Kifissia.
Lucescu’s men produced their most productive performance in this year’s Stoiximan Super League, finishing second in threat as their 15 final appearances were valuable 2.29 xGoals. The previous event happened three days ago in Tripoli when they beat Asteras 4-1. Thomas Murg’s star shone in this game. In Caesariani, Kirill Despodov was MVP.
The Bulgarian midfielder was one of six goalscorers for the Black and Whites and provided three assists, marking his most successful appearance for the Black and Whites. Tyson and Zivkovic were absent from these two games (Asteras and Kifisia), but their absence was never felt. And in this (especially at Kifissia) Despodov played an important role.
Despodov’s two great performances against Kifissia
Kirill Despodov was deployed on the right attacking wing, the position where Lucescu uses him most often, and the Bulgarian once again fulfilled his role. In fact, he was the player higher up the field (77) than Brandon Thomas (71) who turned further back on the field several times, as we can see in the Opta Stats/Perform graph.
Lucescu held him the entire game and Despontov finished the game with 58 actions with the ball. In fact, ten of them were in the Anagnostopoulos area. It was the highest performance by a Dikefalo player in the league, behind Tomas’ 11 appearances against Lamia.
In one of these ten actions, Despodov scored with a beautiful shot from deep. Where it stood out from Kifissia was the creation part. Created four finals All three even provided assists for his teammates (for goals from Thomas, Murg and Ozdoev).
At the same time he had four successful dribbles a record performance by a PAOK player in 90 minutes. Because Despodov was high up the pitch, he didn’t have many passes, but he had a very good scoring rate 26/32 precise passes.
The Bulgarian started perfectly at PAOK, but gradually experienced a slight decline as his role in Dikefalos is different to the one he had in Ludogorets. But now he shows that he is fully integrated, which is clear from both his appearances and his statements.
The summer addition of Despontov and the return of Murg gave Lucescu the opportunity to comfortably and successfully navigate the league and Conference League by splitting time and opening up the rotation. These two footballers were able to adequately fill the gap left by Živković and Tyson, who were missing in the last few games.
