El Arabi and Masouras are here and Olympiacos belongs to everything in Greece and Europe
Dimitris Christofidellis writes about Olympiakos’ win against Panserraikos in the presence of El Arabi and Masoura. The red and whites are once again firmly in the fight for the championship, despite all the chances they have to score.
Olympiacos currently has the most points won in the stadium. Because we must not forget that the red and whites are currently one point behind PAOK at the top, but give them a zero (1:1 at this point) and -1 point for abandoning the derby with Panathinaikos in Karaiskakis.
In any case, the Piraeus team is once again firmly in the fight for the championship and at the same time within reach of all its goals in Greece and Europe.
The last five days have been good for Olympiakos, in the sense that with a new coach on the bench they both won Batska Topola (5-2) in the Europa League and continued in the Conference League, where they will face Ferencvaros in the round of 16 games and Panserraikos (1-0) in Serres for the championship and thus caught up again from the top.
Now the red-whites have to present themselves even better in the difficult game against Atromitos Athens on Thursday (December 21) in Peristeri in order to win and end 2023 well.
Olympiacos’ multiple wins
The Piraeus team had several advantages from the game with Panseraikos, including the following:
- Firstly, it took the three points away, even if its performance was not at a high level, on a matchday in which two of its three rivals in the championship, AEK and Panathinaikos, dropped points.
- Secondly, he had the activation of El Arabi, who played half an hour against Bacca Topola and another half hour against Panseraikos and actually scored in both games. Olympiacos needs the good Arabi and especially now that El Kaabi is leaving for Morocco in a few weeks and will miss the whole of January because of the Africa Cup of Nations.
- Thirdly, Masura had a good night, as did Rodney, Ortega, Kamara and Ese.
- Fourthly, he kept a clean sheet in defence, something he had been lacking recently.
- Fifth, the last two victories in Greece and Europe have strengthened the psychology of the players.
- And sixthly, for the second game in a row, the high pressing, quick ball recovery and pressure on the opponent worked well, while the red and whites reacted better in defense this time.
Olympiacos has a lot to improve
Of course, Olympiacos still has a lot to improve in its game, especially in the blocking role, but the victories allow Carvalhal to work with more comfort and calm at Rentis until reinforcements arrive in January.
Until then, however, the Portuguese and the players of the Piraeus team must overcome the obstacle of the struggling Atromitos, in a place where the red and whites face difficulties.
What is important for Olympiakos, however, is that Carvalhal brings other players into the game and, above all, that the Piraeus team is firmly in the fight for the championship title and generally achieves all its goals in national and international competitions.
As for the latter, Ferentsvaros is a good, ambitious and quality team and at Olympiakos they should prepare well for two tough clashes in February. It will be almost two months until then and the red and whites have a lot to do, especially with a view to the league and the cup.
