The corona virus causes fear of the derby with Panathinaikos in Olympiakos

Olympiakos will face Panathinaikos next Sunday (January 16), but the spread of the coronavirus in Renti raises concerns about the players’ readiness for action.

The game between Olympiacos and Asteras has been postponed. The latest tests identified several cases of coronavirus among the reds and whites, while four had been identified prior to the game with Apollon. According to the log, the game could not be played (it takes seven cases on the last two reviews to be postponed).

Now that the game is on the list of the reprogrammed and without being sure when and where it will fit, the next game is theoretically the derby against Panathinaikos (16/1, 19:30) on the avenue. This is a crucial game that the red and whites had already circled. Inevitably, the coronavirus issue is now of great concern.

The situation of the returnees is questionable

Of course there will be footballers who have “cleaned themselves up” of the coronavirus and are potentially available for the derby on the avenue. However, it is not certain what condition they will be in as they have lost much of their training and remain in isolation. Also, with a lot of absenteeism in the coming week, the players chosen by Martins for the Eleven versus the Greens will not have worked together enough, which can create an additional problem.

We must also remember that the coronavirus is spreading like wildfire. Since the four cases got even more and led to the postponement of the game with Arcades, it cannot be ruled out that other players will fall ill during the week. Therefore, Olympiacos will definitely have returns, but it cannot be ruled out that new losses may occur at the same time that will affect Rentis’ work in the face of the big game.

The absences at the Africa Cup

Pedro Martins already works with absences. Pape Abu Cisse, Agibu Camara, Pierre Cude, Gary Rodrεςguez and Henry Oniekuru are with their national teams in the Copa Africa, with the Portuguese coach having a headache.

After all, Olympiacos is the team most influenced by the pan-African organization. The absences mentioned above combined with those caused by the coronavirus created a huge problem for the reds and whites.

In all the absences there is at least the return of Socrates Papastathopoulos. The 33-year-old central defender should be 100 percent fit next week and prepare for the avenue derby, so the Portuguese coach has an experienced defender at his disposal.

He missed the opportunity for a quick response

Olympiakos on Wednesday (5/1) could not pass Rizoupoli and thus lost two points in the first game of 2022. Pedro Martins raised his voice at the Olympiacos training center so that in the near future the players would show a better picture and not repeat what happened to Apollon Smyrnis.

The red and white tones are at +9 from the second AEK, but nothing that is emphasized in Rentis is over. The game scheduled for Sunday (9/1) was a prime opportunity for the Olympiacos players to react quickly and show that they are out of the game in Rizoupoli.

The coronavirus ruined the plan … of the response. Now Olympiakos will have to wait for their next game in the hopes that everything will go smoothly in order to try to recover after losing to Apollon in Rizoupoli.
