Tuber’s contract with AEK does not trigger a ratification debate

AEK is called upon to pay Eintracht Frankfurt € 2 million to fully own Steven Chuber and his “disappearance” is just a detail.

Such a combination of a deafening start and a disturbing disappearance barely crosses your mind. Steven Chuber made sure that the demands and expectations of the people at AEK and its fans were raised to unimaginable heights. In the course of time he was appointed head of an ensemble that could claim the championship under his leadership. The sooner he did it, the more suddenly he took it back.

And what is the reality now? In five of his first seven games in the Greek championship, the Swiss was decisive, scoring 5 goals and providing 2 assists. The dithyrambs are sensible for a footballer who has changed his environment without preparation and with a summer burden from the European Championship games with Switzerland. However, the sequel was disappointing. As of October 24th last year, when he scored once in the away game against Volos and gave two final passes, Chouber has been ignored.

His zero stats in 9 official games is a clear cause for concern. And for his contract?

The Swiss extreme striker has signed his collaboration with AEK until summer 2025, i.e. for another three seasons. In order for this to be validated, however, the Union must deposit 2 million euros with Eintracht Frankfurt, as stipulated by the purchase option agreed with the German club for the 30-year-old national player. There’s still plenty of time to go before the final decision, but Chuber’s long-term deformation doesn’t seem like a serious reason for terminating the deal. At least not now.

His return and identification of the problem

A responsibility towards the footballer for his – for two and a half months – sluggish presence does not arise at this point in time. His measurements showed fatigue as the main problem due to the additional stress caused by his continued appearances in games of the Swiss national team. He also discussed this with Argyris Giannikis and the two directors Giannis Papadimitriou and Panagiotis Kone. However, this situation has to change.

AEK urgently needs the good Tsouber of his first month and a half in Greece. And if the problem isn’t so much his own, then it should be the team and the coach. When the Swiss return to normal levels of fitness and endurance, there is an urgent need to find a way to use them. There are very big and demanding games coming up, three with PAOK, definitely one with Olympiakos, one chance and three against the “red-whites” in the event that the Union moves up to the cup.

Next up are the two away games against Aris and Panathinaikos for the championship. All of this – if Covid 19 allows – within the next 50 days, i.e. by the end of February. Without the good chuber, the case can hardly get far. In fact, a form of discussion can arise that does not currently exist, that of purchase or not through unity.

The great effort of summer and the avoidance of a misjudgment

AEK gave everything last summer to make it their own. Both financially and personally. He secured the desired contract – 1 million euros plus bonuses per year – and made him feel special when he approached him. It happened because everyone, especially the head of administration Dimitris Melissanidis, saw in him a very special footballer for the domestic data. However, they haven’t noticed it in the field for a long time.

Perhaps a detailed discussion with him will solve the problem. Of course, the main responsibility for the right effort rests with the coach and the way the team tries to take advantage of him, but AEK needs to be sure that the Swiss also understands the amount of financial and competitive investment the club intends to make in his Face to do.

To be aware of the great aspiration that comes from him to become a standard bearer of great success and not a player with glittering lightning bolts and lost intervals. It is important that Chuber desperately wants to come forward and make a difference. Time goes by dangerously and there is no room for error, neither for him nor for the Union.
