The derby with Panathinaikos could affect transfer movements at Olympiakos
The derby against Panathinaikos is a priority for Olympiakos, followed by the arrivals and departures in the red-white squad.
The absence of the five players from the Africa Cup of Nations at least until the end of the month, the muscle injuries and the pandemic with the post-training sessions mean Olympiakos are constantly getting more data. The above concerns the Red-Whites’ transfer planning, but they might not be the only ones. The picture and the result of Olympiacos in the derby with Panathinaikos on Sunday (16.1., 7.30 p.m., COSMOTE SPORT 1HD, LIVE Sportish) at Apostolos Nikolaidis should change the situation.
It may seem paradoxical to many, but history has (proved) that the results in the matches between the eternal rivals of Greek football led to decisions that changed the dates. Olympiacos have therefore postponed all developments in the transfer market (not now, but for a few days…) after the game with Panathinaikos.
Defeating the Greens is a priority
The red and white team’s top priority at the moment is to win against the greens. Everything else follows. Finally, let’s not forget that the Piraeus team are coming off the tie against Apollon Smyrnis in Rizoupoli and will not concede points for a second game in a row. Returning to victory is the big goal for Pedro Martins and the footballers, especially when they face the Greek classic.
The red-whites have been upping their pace in Renti for the past twenty-four hours, they seem to have gotten the news of the twist with the Light Brigade, but everything will be visible on the field. There they will show if they have left behind the wrong mentality with which they faced the game with Apollo.
As for the transfers, everyone understands that it is different for Olympiacos to leave the game with Panathinaikos as the winner and to keep the +9 of AEK in the standings (who plays Panaitolikos at home), and otherwise the Piraeus team will tied or beaten on the avenue and the yellows and blacks to reduce the difference to seven or six points.
In the first case, the good psychology at Olympiakos will be maintained and the transfer planning will continue as before. In the second, the conversation may take a different course than on Monday (January 17) and there may be thoughts about further steps.
Appropriate preparation has been made
Olympiakos management, in consultation with Martins, Karebe and Modesto, have made the appropriate preparations not only in terms of adding a left-back but also for other positions in the starting XI. After all, at the moment, no one can rule out that an offer to sell a player will be received on Alexandra Square, who will have to be replaced immediately.
In any case, the last two weeks of the transfer window will be interesting for Olympiakos, both in terms of player arrivals and departures. He will settle the issue of taking on a left-back, whether there will be another move, whether an important player will be sold, whether Lovera will remain in the squad or whether Semedo and Markovic will be given status.
At the moment it comes out that the Red-Whites have no official offer to sell any of their key players or generally the 14-15 that Martins uses the most. Of course, a lot changes from day to day in the transfer window.
The same applies to access to the pirate team. Should a transfer opportunity arise in the near future, Olympiacos won’t let it go to waste.
