Panathinaikos – Olympiakos 0: 0: All zero in the suffering derby
The derby between Panathinaikos and Olympiakos ended in a goalless draw that will soon be forgotten as neither team was able to threaten the other. The guests took the point and were held at +9 by the second PAOK.
The 18th game derby between Panathinaikos and Olympiakos ended in a goalless draw, with both sides staying at clean sheets, in a game… that suffered for both as both the Greens and Red-Whites finished the game with nine finals, none but inside the hearth of Brinoli and Vatslik.
Olympiakos with that draw were held at +9 by the second PAOK and took another step to win this year’s championship when going through a difficult course like Avenue’s.
Overall, the Klee was slightly better than its opponent. He had more possession, more finals, Olympiakos seven-a-side, won six corners, with the Reds and Whites winning none, and his players pushed into the box more often than Olympiakos’s.
At the same time, the conditions of the stages created by Panathinaikos were better compared to what the visitors did, who had only two shots at Brinioli’s home and none of them in the second 45 minutes.
The derby had enough tactics for the two coaches, who wanted to keep a clean sheet, especially in defence, and then look for a goal.
Panathinaikos with Mauricio, Olympiakos with a trio
The two coaches, having returned to the missions of the two teams in relation to their last games, decided to differentiate their eleven, while in that of Olympiakos and in relation to the Red-Whites’ last game against Apollon Smyrnis also Pedro Martins changed the layout of the team.
For the hosts, Ivan Jovanovic didn’t have the penalized Sanchez available, opting instead for Juankar, who recovered from injury, and Mauricio, Carlitos, who left the virus behind. In the 4-3-3 that saw the Serb defeat Panathinaikos, he opted to bring back Mauricio instead of Alexandropoulos and kept Makeda in the starting XI while Carlitos stayed on the bench.
Brinioli sat under the goalposts, Kotsiras played on the right wing and Juankar on the left wing. While the stopper duo was Veleth sink field again. Pereth played as a six with Mauricio and Vigiafanies alongside him. In the attacking trio Palacios started on the right, Aitor on the left and Makeda at the front.
For their part, the Reds and Whites played with a trio in defense and a 3-4-3, with Manolas – Papastathopoulos playing as a duo for the first time in defence, while Martins did not have the injured Bouhalakis available and left El Arabi on the bench. .
Under the goalposts was Vatslik with Manolas playing in the stopper trio on the right, Papastathopoulos in the middle and Ba on the left. Lala was in right midfield, Reabciuk on the left and Kamara and Embila played as a duo in midfield. In the attacking trio, Lopez played on the right, Masouras on the left, and Ticinio at the head of the red-white attack.
A remarkable phase in 45 minutes of play
The first part of the derby started with Olympiakos having a slight advantage and wanting to push the greens over the middle to steal balls and threaten. Of course he didn’t succeed, except a couple of times, but again he failed to threaten Brinoli’s house.
Over time, Panathinaikos kept the ball on his feet and tried to find corridors to Vatslik’s home, but Makeda found themselves in another bad game and didn’t help to properly complete the greens’ offensive actions.
The best phase of the first half belonged to the hosts and came in the 41st minute when Juankar passed Lala nicely from the left, making a sweet cross to Makenda who bounced on his head undisturbed but at the wrong time, resulting in it that he sent the home of the Czech goalkeeper quite high from her.
It is significant that the first part ended with Panathinaikos having three finals, none at home and xgoal 0.28, while Olympiakos ended the 45th minute with two finals, also none at home and 0.09 xgoal.

Jovanovic brought Ioannidis, Martin’s El Arabi
At the beginning of the second half, the two coaches threw an attacker into play. For the hosts, Ivan Jovanovic passed Ioannidis on the field instead of Makenda, who was pretty bad in another game and didn’t help during the game. On the other hand, the Portuguese coach brought in El Arabi and knocked out Lopez, who was also bad throughout the game.
Despite the two changes in attack from both teams, the derby continued in the same pattern. With the difference that Panathinaikos picked up the ball more, it circulated better and at the same time the pressure from Olympiakos was reduced to a minimum.
Still, neither team could reach a final heading home, but neither shot nor static stages won by the hosts were inconclusive.

You changed, but to no avail
Pedro Martins intervened and threw in first Valbouena instead of Masura and then Karbovnik instead of Lala, while Jovanovic simultaneously eliminated the injured Aitor and brought Vital into play.
However, any corrective moves from the two benches did not change the data of the game. True, it is characteristic that the first danger in front of the two hosts in the second half came in the 74′ and was a long-range shot by Vigiafanies after a nice energy from the Argentine.
Panathinaikos tried to increase his pressure as time went on with the arrival of Alexandropoulos in 81′ to help as the Greek midfielder set the pace and tried to make some frontal attacks.
Of course, the Greens threatened again with a header that went to Ba in 80′ and another shot from distance by Vigiafanies in 82′.

Despodov became an integral part of a well-coordinated machine: the two great performances against Kifissia
Kirill Despodov put in his best performance with the PAOK jersey in the 2023 final and showed that he has fully integrated into Razvan Lucescu’s group. The Bulgarian midfielder’s outstanding performances against Kifissia.
PAOK ideally completed its commitments before the end of 2023, when it passed Kaisariani with full football and played the newly enlightened Kifissia.
Lucescu’s men produced their most productive performance in this year’s Stoiximan Super League, finishing second in threat as their 15 final appearances were valuable 2.29 xGoals. The previous event happened three days ago in Tripoli when they beat Asteras 4-1. Thomas Murg’s star shone in this game. In Caesariani, Kirill Despodov was MVP.
The Bulgarian midfielder was one of six goalscorers for the Black and Whites and provided three assists, marking his most successful appearance for the Black and Whites. Tyson and Zivkovic were absent from these two games (Asteras and Kifisia), but their absence was never felt. And in this (especially at Kifissia) Despodov played an important role.
Despodov’s two great performances against Kifissia
Kirill Despodov was deployed on the right attacking wing, the position where Lucescu uses him most often, and the Bulgarian once again fulfilled his role. In fact, he was the player higher up the field (77) than Brandon Thomas (71) who turned further back on the field several times, as we can see in the Opta Stats/Perform graph.
Lucescu held him the entire game and Despontov finished the game with 58 actions with the ball. In fact, ten of them were in the Anagnostopoulos area. It was the highest performance by a Dikefalo player in the league, behind Tomas’ 11 appearances against Lamia.
In one of these ten actions, Despodov scored with a beautiful shot from deep. Where it stood out from Kifissia was the creation part. Created four finals All three even provided assists for his teammates (for goals from Thomas, Murg and Ozdoev).
At the same time he had four successful dribbles a record performance by a PAOK player in 90 minutes. Because Despodov was high up the pitch, he didn’t have many passes, but he had a very good scoring rate 26/32 precise passes.
The Bulgarian started perfectly at PAOK, but gradually experienced a slight decline as his role in Dikefalos is different to the one he had in Ludogorets. But now he shows that he is fully integrated, which is clear from both his appearances and his statements.
The summer addition of Despontov and the return of Murg gave Lucescu the opportunity to comfortably and successfully navigate the league and Conference League by splitting time and opening up the rotation. These two footballers were able to adequately fill the gap left by Živković and Tyson, who were missing in the last few games.
