Fortounis trained with the team and returned to action in 2-3 weeks
Costas Fortounis trained with the rest of his teammates for the first time, participated in the program and is expected to return to competitions in 2-3 weeks.
The moment when Costas Fortounis can play again with Olympiakos is short. The Trikala midfielder went out and trained with the rest of the team at Rentis’ facilities under the supervision of coach Christos Mourikis, who has overseen his rehabilitation program and with the support of the medical team led by Christos Theos.
This was the first time he had returned to normal training after 6.5 months after sustaining a serious left knee injury (torn cruciate ligament) in a friendly Wolfsberger. Fortounis followed most of the training with his teammates and completed the extra program in the gym.
It is estimated that he will be ready to fight again in mid-February. It remains to be seen if he will survive the matches with Atalanta and that will be assessed by Pedro Martins in consultation with the team’s coach and medical team. “Fortou” is picking up steam, however, and it won’t be long before he’s back on the pitch in an official match.
