Jovanovic ”normal” game tasks and the transfer speech

Costas Goulis stands where Ivan Jovanovic is really to blame for the painful loss to Asteras and the basis on which the Panathinaikos transfers discussion should be conducted normally, which has taken a long time but will happen.

The easiest and cheapest thing after the painful home defeat of Panathinaikos on Saturday against Asteras Tripoli is to suddenly put Ivan Jovanovic in the “Extract” and record all the “negative”, football data and data that he does NOT have in the “Clover”.

Of course, most of them were NOT available to Panathinaikos before the loss to Asteras either, only always after such… Slapping comes in handy to come out with greater intensity and zero mood.

Why; Because the “evil” and “insecure” Serb is slow in transfers and Panathinaikos is far behind while he needs higher quality because of both. All cheekily thrown into a cauldron and tangled to create an ideal atmosphere of misery and whining.

That Panathinaikos has NO NORMAL centre-forward, killer, goalie from the dark days when Markus Berg was sold to the Al Ain Arabs for only 3.2 million euros is clear and in kilograms. Don’t repeat them. The great Swede stopped at 96 goals after 4 years in the “Klee”, while the 10 “substitute” strikers who came to Berg contributed 86 goals after 4.5 years. Go on.

Is he missing a midfielder with personality to change the balance and overall composition of the team? He misses and misses. Does he lack a winger who presses more surface and ends the phases with goals and assists and will the opposing defense still “feel” him? He misses And all that he has to find at some point if he as a team (er) Panathinaikos really wants to change his level and return to his normal cubic meters.

Preferably that kind of hesitation

But blaming the Serb for the ozone hole and the greenhouse effect in a timely manner is far from the normal magnitude of responsibility he bears now that he has been on the Panathinaikos bench for 7 months.

Yes, Panathinaikos should have filled the important gaps in his squad much sooner. And Jovanovic is likely to be more decisive in some cases, which he has already examined from a hundred pages, because there is a budget. After all, every transfer always involves a risk. You can never be absolutely sure how and if every player will “out” to you 100%. Countless examples …

On the other hand, I personally respect the doubts and reluctance of a coach who respectfully respects every euro he wants to invest in a club in his transfer moves much more than “burdening” the team with players of dubious value. Multi-year contracts and can’t get rid of them or pay for them afterwards… ships.

The 2 million euros are not … a communication trick

The fact that there are plus 2 million euros available for transfers (because they exist, it’s not a communication trick) does not mean that they should be thrown in the trash. Damn, the past should teach at some point and remind you that the – two years – reckless opening, spending and throwing money, 2017 was the dissolution of the whole club.

Don’t have a short memory! Panathinaikos “ate” both Stramatsoni and Roka in the head and the whole team blew up (especially with the first one). And Ayub is still there, he bites 430,000 a year and lets … burst out laughing in the snow of the avenue, while Panathinaikos has just lost to Asteras Tripoli …

Transfers will be made in the final

The “Greens” will also make transfers in the final. That is my personal feeling. What is needed are those who will really become players who will make a difference for him, as Jovanovic said in the prelude to the game with Asteras. And that’s what he was accused of. However, imminent transfers aside, the Serbian and his staff will have to be judged on what the team produces and shows on the field. That’s what the conversations need to focus on now, game by game and at the end of the entire season. And being held accountable for the right things and not a total “achtarmas” of “ouch” accusations for everything because it’s convenient.

The two reasons for his bad looks

Panathinaikos was bad in the match against Asteras because:

a) He was competitively and mentally unready to play in that particular match. Did losing three workouts in the middle of the week matter? Obviously, but it’s no excuse. He had to be much more focused from the start, look for a goal more intensively and then manage it. He didn’t, against an opponent who faithfully followed his coach’s plan for “X” and at the end upon leaving he found… a wallet right outside the dressing room. If something is wrong, it will go. And when something goes wrong at Panathinaikos, it always goes to the core.

b) From the moment Vigiafanies was absent, the simultaneous presence of Ruben, Mauricio and Alexandropoulos in midfield proved wrong. This particular scheme cannot give many creative things to Panathinaikos and is dysfunctional at the very least. If the game was an away derby where you want a closer line-up (in the Argentine’s absence), it would make sense. In a game you want to dominate and, most importantly, create against an opponent who had come onto the field to play with 10 bodies behind the ball, Panathinaikos’ production was in deficit.

And even when the Serbian coach felt that Ludqvist – who got the role – couldn’t give him what he was creatively looking for, he could either start Vital – the only player capable of creating and passing on one-on-one situations can ball through the… eye of the needle – or surprise your opponent by changing the layout. And restoring the 4-4-1-1 with Carlitos behind Ioannidis as he played and served his team early in the season.

Jovanovic didn’t read it well and paid for it. Panathinaikos’ 4-3-3 “works” for now only with the concrete people (Ruben, Vigiafanies and Mauricio) or with a player close to the characteristics of Vigiafanies (Ludqvist of those that the team now has in its potential) , at least until “8ari” is reached. With the trio taking on Asteras, it was a given that they would have “problems” as the game revealed.

The “Devil’s Week” is a crash test character

The most important thing now is that the entire team “reacts” to the following “devil’s week” in Heraklion (OFI, 02/02) and Toumba (PAOK, 02/06). And to prove that the match with Asteras was a “brace” in the last quarter. Very important crash test “character” of the whole team next week, with all the rest and frugality of the season. And Panathinaikos mustn’t trip him on the one hand and kick his… card with even greater force on the other…

Despodov became an integral part of a well-coordinated machine: the two great performances against Kifissia

Kirill Despodov put in his best performance with the PAOK jersey in the 2023 final and showed that he has fully integrated into Razvan Lucescu’s group. The Bulgarian midfielder’s outstanding performances against Kifissia.

PAOK ideally completed its commitments before the end of 2023, when it passed Kaisariani with full football and played the newly enlightened Kifissia.

Lucescu’s men produced their most productive performance in this year’s Stoiximan Super League, finishing second in threat as their 15 final appearances were valuable 2.29 xGoals. The previous event happened three days ago in Tripoli when they beat Asteras 4-1. Thomas Murg’s star shone in this game. In Caesariani, Kirill Despodov was MVP.

The Bulgarian midfielder was one of six goalscorers for the Black and Whites and provided three assists, marking his most successful appearance for the Black and Whites. Tyson and Zivkovic were absent from these two games (Asteras and Kifisia), but their absence was never felt. And in this (especially at Kifissia) Despodov played an important role.

Despodov’s two great performances against Kifissia

Kirill Despodov was deployed on the right attacking wing, the position where Lucescu uses him most often, and the Bulgarian once again fulfilled his role. In fact, he was the player higher up the field (77) than Brandon Thomas (71) who turned further back on the field several times, as we can see in the Opta Stats/Perform graph.

Despodov became an integral part of a well-tuned machine

Lucescu held him the entire game and Despontov finished the game with 58 actions with the ball. In fact, ten of them were in the Anagnostopoulos area. It was the highest performance by a Dikefalo player in the league, behind Tomas’ 11 appearances against Lamia.

In one of these ten actions, Despodov scored with a beautiful shot from deep. Where it stood out from Kifissia was the creation part. Created four finals All three even provided assists for his teammates (for goals from Thomas, Murg and Ozdoev).

Despodov became an integral part of a well-tuned machine

At the same time he had four successful dribbles a record performance by a PAOK player in 90 minutes. Because Despodov was high up the pitch, he didn’t have many passes, but he had a very good scoring rate 26/32 precise passes.

The Bulgarian started perfectly at PAOK, but gradually experienced a slight decline as his role in Dikefalos is different to the one he had in Ludogorets. But now he shows that he is fully integrated, which is clear from both his appearances and his statements.

The summer addition of Despontov and the return of Murg gave Lucescu the opportunity to comfortably and successfully navigate the league and Conference League by splitting time and opening up the rotation. These two footballers were able to adequately fill the gap left by Živković and Tyson, who were missing in the last few games.
