Ivan Savvidis: “I have the main responsibility, the squad is not closed”
On Wednesday (17.8.) a big telephone conference took place between the President of PAOK PAOK and the coaching staff, the sports directorate, the administration and the heads of departments, where Ivan Savvidis put his stamp on the new year. The strongman’s speech of Dikephalos as given by PAE in a press release.
Ivan Savvidis had a conference call with all senior PAOK officials, including Jose Boto, Razvan Loucescu and Makis Gagatsis, and discussed any outstanding issues regarding the football department, whether during the game or not.
Specifically, what Ivan Savvidis said, according to PAE: “Of course, I am primarily responsible. Life is structured in such a way that failures are the fault of the mind, but victories are made by everyone else. I have no problem with that and am speaking to you today because the strong emotions after the ban have subsided.
We have to improve in all areas, reorganize the team in all its structures. I look forward to any suggestions for the changes and improvements your departments need.
According to my own logic, I carry out the transfer proposals, which have the coach’s absolute approval, according to the sporting director’s proposal. I assume that we won’t always agree, but our disagreements will allow us to make the right decisions for the club. The squad must be balanced and footballers who are not in the manager’s plans should be sold or left.
Nobody understood how I refer to the word self-sufficiency. Before me, PAOK was never united and relied on its own people, its own resources, its own plan. After me I want it to be like this. Until then, I’ll secure the funding to achieve lofty goals.
In the world’s most difficult year, this year’s deficit is large and I will guarantee its coverage. This so everyone understands that all mistakes end there and will always be covered by me. I am not happy at all with the revenue generation for the team, with the revenue generating activities and it needs to be improved tremendously.
In the most difficult moment I will be there and not only support the team but also start historical projects like the stadium and the training center. And I want to have people with me who not only see problems, but also their solutions.
We are approaching the 100th anniversary of PAOK and from now on it has to be clear how we get there and with whom we get there.
Bans are a setback and I want you all to deal with them. I don’t want anyone to be happy that we’re going to play one game a week.
The agreements with the footballers and their contracts were made with the ambition to play 55-60 games a year. The agreements are kept, even if the games are fewer after elimination. I demand that everyone be fully prepared each week.
I can’t imagine that the coach and the players won’t have the ideal conditions for it. It goes without saying that a long and very successful circle is closing and we decided to start a new one. There is a great renewal both in people and in ideas and we know very well that this team will soon open a new cycle of great successes if we all work together in the same direction.
The squad is not fixed and I am confident that the coaching staff will take the best that this team has to offer, developing the young players and instilling in them the winning mentality that the older players have mastered. I call for more analysis and fixing of the injury issue so the manager isn’t forced to miss valuable players from important games because their fitness wasn’t analyzed properly.
In my life I have never aspired to be second. And in my business and in my life, I’m not satisfied with that. The goal has to be first place for my team. However, the many changes will take time and patience to pay off, we understand and support that, but always keep an eye on winning the next race.
I ask you to think like this and to start the year together with optimism. To “force” people to embrace the team more. I’m by your side, even from afar” .
