In Rizoupoli, AEK’s first two home games against Volos and PAS Ioannina
AEK’s two home games against Volos and PAS Ioannina will be held in Rizoupoli because despite the efforts of the Union people, it was not possible to be played in the OPAP Arena.
Rizoupoli will be home to AEK in the next two Super League home games against Volos (27/8) and PAS Ioannina (4/9).
Despite great efforts to get the OPAP Arena ready for the first two home games all the time, the time has finally come it was not possible.
After a meticulously detailed analysis of all data and exhaustion of all possibilities regarding the new stadium, the Union concluded that the conditions under which this could happen would not correspond to the historical circumstances of AEK’s return to New Philadelphia to the extent required .
In fact, it was considered to play the games in Spata (Serapheido), but this was ruled out due to the capacity of the stadium. The most likely now is that the Union’s first game will take place on October 1st at the OPAP Arena against Ionikos for the sixth game of the championship.
