This is the deal that sends Alexandropoulos to Sporting
Sporting Lisbon are close to proceeding with the transfer of Sotiris Alexandropoulos from Panathinaikos, with the clover bringing in up to €5.5m and maintaining a resale rate of 15%.
The issue of selling Sotiris Alexandropoulos to Sporting Lisbon has now entered its final stages, with Panathinaikos and the Portuguese outfit having been in open negotiations for the past 48 hours and having found a first common ground on the 21-year-old’s financial ‘package’ – old concession medium.
Panathinaikos, who had no hesitation in rejecting Verona’s proposals of €3m and €3.7m for the young international midfielder, sat down with the Portuguese only when the number ‘5’ entered the whole process next to their offer.
The “Greens” have set a “limit” of 5.5 million euros for the total amount of the movement of “Alexandros”, plus a high proportion of resale.
In his second offer, Sporting went for 4+1 million euros for the Greek ace (one million euros “split” into two bonuses of 500,000 euros each, each time he catches the 20 appearances), but Panathinaikos is pushing towards the final win a little more and reach a total of 5.5 million euros, that was the limit that the “Greens” Alexandropoulos had set from the start.
The information provided by Portuguese journalists suggests that the Lisbon “lions” will finally agree to the amount requested by the “Greens” and will have more comfort and liquidity on their payroll after Slimani’s release, from which they saved about 3 million euros .
Finally, they are keen on this transfer as they have targeted Alexandropoulos as a replacement for Mateus Nunes – a midfielder with identical competitive characteristics who “joined” to Wolves on August 18 instead of €43m – the Greek international midfielder, via a list of 4 central media candidates.
The final negotiation phase focuses on the resale percentage. Panathinaikos had asked for 20%, Sporting had suggested 10% in both offers, but both sides are expected to find a middle ground and lock in the resale percentage that will keep the ‘cloverleaf’ at 15%.
Well-informed sources from Portugal who are in direct contact with people leading the discussions on the sporting side say there will be an agreement at all levels between the two sides within the day, with Alexandropoulos getting the green light from Panathinaikos to travel to Trials to Lisbon and… signs a 4-year contract with the “Lions”.
