June’s flirtation with Gulbrandsen could come to life for AEK
AEK were keen on Fredrik Gulbrandsen early in the summer, who was offered them again, this time on more acceptable financial terms.
It was in June that AEK had established contacts with the Norwegian striker – actually with an extra-administrative partner of PAE who “led” the process Fredrik Gulbrandsen, who was free from the Turkish Basaksehir. However, a significant financial difference was identified as the 29-year-old forward earned a contract worth more than a million euros.
Enough time has passed since then and the footballer did not find what he was looking for in the money he was looking for. In recent days there has been an opening from his side – via Agent Jim Soldbagen – to AEK to see if interest could reignite. It may also not be a good time to rethink the characteristics of the attacker the team is now looking for.
So while initially there was consideration of acquiring a penetrating striker, tall and more of a “box” than Sergio Araújo, Matias Almeida is now in favor of acquiring a hunter who can also play behind the striker, alongside him, but also at the front if necessary.
Gulbrandsen has exactly what you need, he’s such a striker. He’s a passepartout forward who can play anywhere on the attacking line, either as a winger (single up top, second, “false nine”) or on the wings.
He has celebrated titles with the shirt of Salzburg, the first stop of his career outside his home country (where he grew up in Lillestrom), but also just last year with the first championship in the history of Baskasehir, whose rotation he was an important part of the last three years.
Overall, the 29-year-old Norway international has played for Lillestrom, Molde, Salzburg, Basaksehir and the New York Red Bulls in his career, making 338 competitive appearances with 83 goals and 34 assists.
