Athens’ Kallithea FC announced on Sunday (15/01) the acquisition of 28-year-old striker Nikos Ioannidis, who was sacked by Ionikos.

Athens Kallithea’s shirt is now worn by Nikos Ioannidis, who has been sacked by Ionikos and signed until 2024.

The announcement of Athens Kallithes:

“Athens Kallithea FC announce the signing of striker Nikos Ioannidis, 28, on a free transfer after his contract with Super League 1’s Ionikos was terminated. Ioannidis has signed on personal terms until the 2023/24 season.

A former youth international, Ioannidis has amassed 15 goals and six assists in Super League 1 and also has experience in Germany, the Netherlands, Hungary and Portugal.

German-born Ioannidis arrived in Greece at a young age, coming via Pandramaikos before joining Olympiakos where he rose through the academy to eventually win the Olympiakos just before his 19th.

After his debut, Ioannidis went on loan to Hansa Rostock in the German third division (six goals in 30 appearances), PEC Zwolle in the Eredivisie (seven appearances in total, including one in the UEFA Europa League) and Borussia Dortmund II in the third German league (one goal in 23 appearances).

In January 2016, Ioannidis left Olympiakos to sign for Asteras Tripoli from Super League 1 and scored eight goals in 44 league and cup games over the next season and a half.

Ioannidis moved abroad again in July 2017, signing for Hungarian top division side Diósgyőr, where he scored seven goals in 39 league and cup appearances, a feat that saw him join Portuguese Primeira Liga side Marítimo the following summer, despite playing was in the club’s few appearances in a season.

In September 2019 Ioannidis returned to Greece for Super League 2’s Doxa Drama and after scoring five goals in nine games, Apollon Smyrnis quickly made the move to sign him mid-season. Ioannidis contributed to the club’s promotion to Super League 1 with three goals in nine games in the second half of the 2019/20 season.

Over the next two seasons in Super League 1, Ioannidis scored nine goals in 61 league games (42 in the starting XI).

After Apollon’s relegation, Ioannidis remained in the top flight with Ionikos, making 13 appearances (four in the starting XI) in the first half of the current 2022/23 season.

At international level, Ioannidis has represented Greece with the U-17 and U-21 teams, scoring seven goals for the U-21 in 11 games, including six goals in the 2017 U-21 Football Championship qualifier.

You’re welcome Nico.”
