Greek clubs spent 56.8m on international transfers in 2022
FIFA announced that Greek clubs have committed €56,800,000 to attract players from abroad in 2022.
FIFA has published its annual report on international football transfers, revealing the amounts spent and received in 2022.
The total number of transfers between clubs from different countries reached 20,209, a record number in football history. 4,770 clubs from 182 FIFA members participated and no money was spent on 85.9% of them.
A record was also set for the number of international money transfers, which reached 2,843 with a total amount of 6,000,000,000 euros.
That performance is up 33.5% from 2021 and marks the end of the pandemic and its impact on football’s finances, at least for the most powerful countries.
The 10 most expensive transactions of the year account for 12.5% of the total, while nearly 70% of transactions were for amounts below the seven-figure mark.
What happened in Greece?
FIFA doesn’t release individual totals for each transfer, but it has disclosed the totals spent in each country and continent.
In Greece in 2022, at the professional level, ie in the Super League and Super League 2, 684 international transfers were made to and from our country. In the two transfer periods, the clubs took on 367 players from abroad and sold 317 players to foreign teams.
In addition, there were 44 Greek teams that spent money to acquire a player from abroad and 13 Greek teams that made money by selling a player to a team from another country.
And the total amount spent by these 44 teams is 56,800,000, and the amount collected by the 13 teams reached 36,500,000.
