Superleague 2
Avgenakis: “We said we’d meet again in 48 hours and in Super League 2 they stopped the championship”
Deputy Sport Minister Lefteris Avgenakis called Super League 2’s decision to suspend the league extreme, noting that the original plan was for the two sides to speak again.
Deputy Sports Minister Lefteris Avgenakis attended the cutting of EAK Chania’s king cake on Friday night and spoke there both about the suspension of the Super League 2 championship, which he described as an extreme decision, and about the projects being carried out in Crete.
Regarding the suspension of the championship in the second division, the deputy sports minister stressed:
“I’m still waiting for them because we said we would talk again in 48 hours … But instead of talking again because we didn’t end up anywhere, they suspended the championship. No problem… We continue the process of preparing the KYA, which will distribute the money to the remaining three leagues, the Super League, the Basketball, Volleyball and Amateur Sports Leagues.
And of course, when they hopefully return to stadiums, we will continue the discussion about the funding that the state can help them through the permanent mechanism we have put in place to support sport.
We are here and we have said it very clearly in all directions: we have met for the second time in order to put on the table in all directions the criteria on the basis of which we will proceed with the distribution.
We would set up an appointment within two 24 hours to review all options and the possibility of increasing funding or other ways to improve all of this. Instead, we saw them make a decision that I think is extreme. We will continue our work with all other leagues…
As a state, we have taken care of all workers, whether they are footballers or just leaders in the PAE, and we are continuing on our course.
Referring to the projects in Crete, on the Nea Chora swimming pool, he first emphasized that the tendering process for the project will be completed by the end of March and will be funded by the Ministry of Sports, while referring to the projects in Akrotiri, with the reconstruction of the closed swimming pool and the Creation of sports facilities.
Mr Avgenakis referred to the installation of the new floodlights at the National Stadium using LED lamps and the auction that will be held to mark the reopening of the weightlifting area, while also discussing the shooting range.
