Agreement between Avgenakis and Martsoukou to fund Super League 2 PAEs from 20-team betting from the 2024/25 season
Deputy Sports Minister Lefteris Avgenakis met with Super League 2 President Petros Martsoukos where, among other things, it was agreed the amount that the teams will receive from the bet, which will amount to 2,542,000 euros, while it was agreed that the Super League 2 teams in the 2024/25 season will be reduced to 20.
Lefteris Avgenakis met with Super League 2 President Petros Martsoukos and “white smoke” came out of the meeting. The agreed money for the PAE is 2,542,000 euros. The 24 teams (except B’ and Apollon Larissa and Herodotus) are entitled to the amount.
The payout processes will begin on May 8th so that there is a complete picture of which teams will receive the money immediately and which teams will have to wait for their share to be withheld due to involvement in reports from Sportradar.
At the same time, it was agreed that there will be 20 teams in the second division from the 2024/25 season. In concrete terms, 10 teams are to be relegated and four from the 3rd Bundesliga are to be promoted in the coming season.
What the corresponding update says in detail: “Deputy Sport Minister Lefteris Avgenakis had a meeting with new Super League 2 president Petros Martsoukos.
Mr. Marchoukos informed the Deputy Minister of the Board’s decisions, through which:
A) The PAEs of SL2 accept the criteria and conditions established by the KYA (Government Gazette B’ 704, 02/10/2023) for the AAEs to be funded through the permanent support mechanism through the taxation of the winnings of gambling players.
It is recalled that these relate to funding:
-AAEs that have a certificate of attendance from the EEA,
-AAE not involved in sports radar reports.
AAEs involved in referrals will have their funding suspended until EPATHLA investigates them and issues a finding.
The suspension of funding will remain in place while the EPATHLA finding is forwarded for further investigation by the EPO’s Sport Prosecutor and Ethics Committee
B) The SL 2 PAEs are committed to limiting the number of participating teams in their league from the 2024 period in order to strengthen the organization’s competitiveness and ensure the survivability of the PAEs.
In particular, the championship of the 2024-2025 season will be played with 20 teams, since the announcement of the 2023-2024 season (organization with 26 teams) foresees that 10 of them will be relegated and 4 will be promoted to the 3rd national team.
Regarding the amount of funding from the permanent support mechanism through the taxation of gambling players’ winnings, Mr. Avgenakis informed Mr. Martsoukos that for SL2 they total €2,542,000 (€105,916.67 for each of the 24 beneficiary PAEs – except for the B’ groups of PAEs from SL1 and Apollo Larissa and Herodotus who left but did not have a certificate of attendance from the EEA).
It has also been agreed that payout procedures will begin on Monday 8 May, so by then there will be a more complete picture of how many and which PAEs will collect directly and which PAEs will have their share withheld due to their involvement in the sport, according to Radar reports“.
