The map of the national categories of Greek football for the 2023/24 season

After the completion of the promotion play-offs from 3. Nationalliga to Super League 2, the Greek football national categories map for the next season was finalized. See in detail the teams that have tickets for the Stoiximan Super League, Super League and 3rd National Team of the New Year.

The 2022–23 season in Greek football ended with the promotion play-offs from the 3rd National League to the Super League 2. Telikratis from Lefkada finished fourth in the mini-league and was among the teams that won alongside Aeoliko, Kozani and Kampaniakos promoted to the second division division.

This is how the map of national categories of Greek football was born. In total, it includes 111 teams, 40 of which are professional teams (36 if we exclude the four B teams playing in Super League 2).

Based on the current data, no major changes are expected in the three divisions, however, there will be some changes in the Super League 2 and 3rd National League.

The Sportish Gather all the facts and present the situation. How the charges come about, what applies to each one, but also what pending cases exist at the court level and beyond.

Stoiximan Super League

There will be no drastic changes in the first tier of Greek football. Ionikos and Levadeakos took the last two places of the playoffs and were relegated to Super League 2. In their place are the two champions of the second division, Panserraikos and Kifisia.

The current format will remain the same in the new year, which means we will have two direct promotions/relegations. The only difference is that Greece will have one less European ticket in the 2023/24 season than this year due to their placement in the special UEFA ranking.

The Stoiximan Super League teams for the 2023/24 season:

  • AEK
  • Panathinaikos
  • Olympic
  • PAOK
  • Mars
  • Marble
  • OFI
  • Fearless
  • PAS Ioannina
  • Asteras Tripoli
  • A pan eater
  • Kifissia
  • Panseraikos

super league 2

Four fewer teams than last season have a ticket for the new season’s Super League 2 in their hands, i.e. 26 teams, of which 20 also competed in the league last season.

In addition to Ioikos and Levadeakos, Aeolikos, Kozani, Kampaniakos and Tilykratis are new to the category, i.e. the teams that have been promoted from the 3rd national league.

The chances of these 26 teams competing in Super League 2 are not great. The future of Heracles is looming due to the fall of Mara, with July 5 being the most crucial date for Geraios’ future due to the resurgence of this particular case.

At the same time, Veria (which has been relegated to 3rd National League) urged Super League 2 not to confirm Group 1 placement until June 30 and wait until Iraklis and Anagennisi have (at least) nine points permanently deducted from Karditsa, so that they will be expelled from the new league. If the assessment is upheld, he can appeal to the EPO’s Arbitral Tribunal, starting a legal adventure.

In Group B, the participation of Aegaleos is not a matter of course. The Paltoglou family announced that they are giving away their shares and, if no one is interested, will proceed with the dissolution of PAE and with it relegation to the 3rd National League. It is possible that there are other groups following this path.

For every gap that might arise, there are also Yuchtas. The Archanes of Heraklion team won the championship in the 5th group of the 3rd National League, but did not celebrate promotion to the Super League 2. It is worth remembering that last season seven teams took part in the promotion playoffs from the 3. National League in which SL2 participated In the end, everyone played in the second category. So it is very likely that this will happen with Juhta as well.

The current plan provides for a two-group league with 13 teams. In contrast to the previous two years, this year five teams (instead of four) from each group are relegated and the two champions are promoted to the Stoiximan Super League.

AEK B’ will play in Group A (North) together with PAOK B’, while Panathinaikos B’ will play in Group B (South) together with Olympiakos B’. As of this year, the “immunity” of the B teams also ends, because if they land below the relegation zone, they are relegated regularly.

The Super League 2 teams for the 2023/24 season:

  • PAOK B’
  • Panathinaikos II
  • Olympiacos B’
  • AEK B’
  • AEL
  • Victory of Volos

Third National

The 3rd National Team of the New Year will be divided into four groups, initially 18 teams were planned but due to the suspension of Apollo Larissa there are currently 71 teams.

The champion advances to Super League 2, and if he fails, the runner-up in the group has the right to advance. If he does not take part either, the ticket goes to the second best in the other three groups (and not to the third in the same group).

At the same time, seven teams are relegated. If one team takes less part in a group, the number of relegations is reduced to six. A total of 28 teams from the 3rd national league are expected to be relegated to the leagues there.

The teams that have the right to participate in the 3rd National League championship include Veria, Iraklis Larisas, Thesprotos, Progressive, Episkopi and PAO Roof, relegated from Super League 2. Herodotos, who was ruled out last season, is scrambling to compete in the Third National.

It should be noted that Aetos Varvaras filed an appeal against the prestige of the match with M. Alexandros from Agia Marina regarding the promotion of local teams to the 3rd National League (the match ended 1-1). If his objection is justified, the Epanomi Renaissance will take the place of M. Alexandrou.
