Super League 2 President Petros Martsoukos issued a statement following the Economic Police’s investigation into illegal betting in this category and said he was available to law enforcement to investigate the case.

A major investigation by the Economic Police is currently underway to solve a case of illegal cross-border betting, as NEWS 24/7 writes.

The investigation began on the orders of the financial prosecutor, at the request of Interpol and after a complaint to the Austrian authorities about illegal betting involving people from different European countries, including Greece.

Speaking of the investigation, Super League 2 President Petros Martsoukos issued a statement announcing he was available to law enforcement to investigate the case.

The statement in detail:

“Rampant illegal betting is the biggest scourge of football, not just in Greece but across Europe.”

In recent days, the sports-loving public has been informed of a major investigation involving Interpol, which is being conducted in six countries, including Greece.

My position is clear: not only should we not fear such investigations, but we should seek them out and help them in any way we can if we really want clean football that respects every sane investor and every sports fan.

Since the beginning of my tenure, I have always stated that my goal for Super League 2 is to create an improved, clean and attractive league for solid investors, sponsors, broadcasters and strong partners that will bring our league back to its former glory. Never again B National.

As part of my concrete unshakable will, at the last board meeting on June 28, proposals were made by the board to our PAE members with the aim of increasing the league’s competitiveness and shielding the games of our category from external factors as much as possible.

I’ve even talked about cutting or eliminating a percentage of the state’s betting tax revenue for teams penalized by the Ethics Committee for rigged games.

We have no illusions. We know we have a very difficult climb ahead of us. And if we want to succeed, we must neither retreat nor turn a blind eye to the great problems and especially the great threats facing our category.

We start the fight to create a clean and attractive Super League 2 and we want the Ministry of Sport and the relevant bodies on our side to jointly establish the criteria and safeguards that will finally put an end to the distrust and shadow that has accompanied our championship for years.

We are available to Interpol and all law enforcement agencies to fully clarify the ongoing investigation.”
