Giorgos Simos is the new coach of Ionikos
Ionikos announced the signing of Giorgos Simos, who left Athens’ Kallithea at the end of the season.
Ionikos gave Giorgos Simos the keys in his bid to return to the Stoiximan Super League. Last season, the 45-year-old coach took over the technical management of Athens Kallithea, which prevented him from celebrating promotion in the salons of Greek football.
The announcement of Ionikos about Giorgos Simos: “PAE Ionikos is pleased to announce the start of its collaboration with Giorgos Simos.
Giorgos Simos, 45, is distinguished by his ability to create teams that play modern football and already has a lot of experience.
He started his coaching career in the infrastructure department of Panathinaikos, where he worked for four years (2012-2016), before taking up the position of assistant coach at Cyprus’ Omonia (2016-2017). He spent two years with AEK u20 (2017-2019) and took over as OFI’s first coach in the summer of 2019 (2019-2021).
There he introduced himself in the best way to the Greek crowd who didn’t know him as the Cretan team had impressed the football crowd with their way of playing. In fact, OFI had placed 5thThe position and had secured his exit to the Europa League, returning to European competitions after 20 years!
In the 2021/22 season he was the coach of the Greece U21 national team, while last season he was in the technical lead of Athens Kallithea FC, who finished second, a point off the top.
However, Neapolis is not unfamiliar territory for Giorgos Simos as a footballer he played in our team for one season (2007/08). He has also played for Panathinaikos, Agios Nikolaos, OFI, Chalkidona, AEL, AEK Larnaca, Panaitoliko, National Piraeus and PAO Roof.
The Ionikos family welcomes George Simos and wishes him the best of luck and the achievement of all his goals!
