Pavlos Dermitzakis was on the verge of resigning from the AEL bench after the team’s fans hurled insults at his dead mother. However, he will remain in office until further notice. The rivalry with the Crimson fans had existed for a long time and he had mentioned it in an interview with Sportish.

THE Pavlos Dermitzakis has become the face of the day in Greek football in recent days, unfortunately not for good reason.

The 54-year-old coach made his debut on the AEL bench in a win against Heraklis but resigned at the press conference. The reason for this is that the Maroon fans cursed his dead mother during the game.

The rivalry between the two teams continued for many years, as Dermitzakis discussed taking over the team together with AEL’s then owner Kostas Piladakis in late November to early December 2010. However, a collaboration never took place, which the Kavaliotis technician had already pointed out in an earlier interview with Sportish.

I went to Larissa, the organizers didn’t want me because I was from PAOK and there was a rivalry. I respected that, even though the argument was wrong for me. I am a professional coach and I want the best from every team I work for. And you know, when I play against PAOK I try to win even more because I don’t want anyone to say the slightest thing to me.

Of course I have feelings for all the teams I’ve been through. Especially not for a team in which I also played as a football player. But that’s it. I am a trainer and for me this is a way of life. I found myself nodding off and analyzing past games. I woke up and realized it was a match we had lost…“.
